Re: Sharing Large Generator

solar, generator, or small scale anything has a bad dollar/kwh ratio. My 160W panel + MPPT charge controller + 2 deep cycle batteries produce about 15 cents of electricity per day.... 300 more burns and I'll break even on costs. Added consideration is I'm retired and use it more than just during bur...

You hiked 500 miles??? I'm guessing you own half a comb, a toothbrush with half the handle cut off, and know how to really really squeeze an empty tube of toothpaste. You probably forgot more than most burners know about packing light and have everything you need except for a few 5 gal water jugs. R...

Dunno your state laws, but some are more restrictive than others re> age, parental supervision, not on public lands, etc.... Also check with your insurance company. They may have strong opinions on age vs engine cc.

Does your 1971 have ye olde thermal breaker like this? Hot temps under hood can make a weak one even weaker... There is a simple bimetallic strip inside that opens when hot and closes when your mechanic trouble shoots it later in cooler temps.

Rigid containers are not the only option. "One gallon" zip lock freezer bags come in 2 and 2.5 gallon sizes. I tested the idea last year and all 6 bags made the 2700 mile trip from PA with no problems. Some drips by the time I got back to PA two weeks later. Cheap enough to double bag if you don't w...

Re: Struggling a Bit with Solar/Battery Numbers and Expectations

Solar math can get fuzzy and it is good you are learning to speak AmpHours. Your expectation of solar panel amps is biggest issue I see. The panel puts out it's advertised "140" watts at 17.7V and 7.9A. Typical garden variety "PWM" charge controller simply passes the 7.9A to the battery at reduced v...

Re: Questions on Solar and Deep Cycle Charging and MORE!

here is some solar math tips for beginners. Panel wattage isn't what it seems. The 100W rating of my first panel translated to 5+ amps at 18ish volts. Your basic economical PWM charge controller simply protects the battery and passes 5+ amps to the battery at an average 14ish volts..... minus a few ...

To be most efficient you could use liquid hydrogen. That would give you the most bang for your buck.

Looks like the part we use is in Pershing, the southwest tip of the playa is in Washoe with Gerlach, and the northern tip is in Humboldt. I hope this doesn't mean the kind friendly people(sarc) who police the road in also want some of the playa action.

SSE Interesting guess on the weight. It's empty weight on the ramp when operable was probably 175T. Minus the outer wings, engines, tail.... etc …. I'm guessing 70T in current form. I wonder if anybody can validate our guesses?
