Re: Freeze Dried shortage

Follow up: last of what I ordered Feb-March arrived today. Lots of freeze dried strawberries, plus banana, pineapple, and blueberries. Last item I need is a good 12V blender. Then it is just a case of waiting for house arrest to end this summer so I can practice making daiquiris in triple digit dese...

Re: CoVid-19 and The 2020 Burning Man Event

I can 't seem to find the "What happens if we stay closed too long?" article.  In short:    We wake up to a post apocalyptic economy; no jobs to go back to; monopoly money in our wallets; and govt aid is a meaningless exercise in hyperinflation. We will still be dying for lack of Covid19 vaccine, pl...

Anybody here have any insight into what United Site Services is thinking about this mess? Seems to me the folks who sanitize 1700 porta potties have a big seat at the table this year.

Canoe buddy, all the numbers, graphs, and charts - you are looking into the past. Minimum 10 days in the past, probably more. 2-14 day incubation period, ...typically 5-6 days 3-5 days of mild symptoms most are conditioned to ignore. 2-3 days of oh shit I’m sick and getting tested...…. Scary thing is the pie chart does not account for population size. USA has 5 times more population than Italy. China almost 25 times more. If NYC or California goes in the "Italy mode" we are f'd .

The 18 months I lived in the high desert was the healthiest of my life. Never got bit by a mosquito or pulled a tick off my dog. If this thing goes from bad to worse and I need to bail the desert will be my first choice of refuge.

I like that freeze dried has more "texture" as it transitions from cardboard to soggy. Canned or fresh would be more difficult to keep the daiquiri viscosity thick in the desert heat.

Freeze Dried shortage

If freeze dried foods popular with backpackers and campers are part of your burn plan you may want to have a Plan B. A newly minted crop of preppers is in the panic mode and major vendors like Mountain House and Be Prepared are out of almost everything. Strawberries that were in stock when ordered l...

In sunny CA , we have the cheapest off-peak rate (midnight to 9am) at $0.14. But from 4pm to 9pm we get fleeced at a delightful $0.34 as long as we are frugal and stay in Tier 1 usage If we go over our magic allotment, it jumps to $0.58 per KWh. California Uber Ales! $13.5B sounds modest enough to be workable, but I doubt it. $ 13.5B from a company that serves 5.2M households will cost $2,600 per customer. This settlement is 4.2 times more than PGE market capitalization …..brand stockholders as you wish, but neither mom and pop investors nor evil robber barons l...

I went to my first alternate energy symposium in 1979 when Three Mile Island, lines at the gas station, and World War Snail Darter were all current events. "Spirited debate" would be an understatement. Presenters of various energy topics took turns playing goalie against the greenies dart board team...
