Finished our 6' Stretch folding Hexayurt!!!!

Wired up the fan for the FIGJAM, AA, AAA batteries, confirmed the rental van, got a spare charge controller, bought extra hot glue (still gotta fur my bike up!!), superglue for FIGJAM fan.

Laundry.

First sewing project in years - a white furry light-up scarf for night time!!!

Charged my marine battery today, woo! It was DEAD. New rebar tent stakes, shade structure, sunscreen. Extra bi-fil tape.

And... freakout commenced. I leave in 7 days. What the hell am I doing going on a 20-day camping trip in the desert?!?!

1/2 our food ration for event week, ratchet straps, baby wipes, face wipes, tarps, more wool socks for my Mr.

Pack your bags, kids! We're going to Burning Man!

Deep discharge battery, charge controller, 15W solar panel. Woooooo!

Got our non-shitty RMAX panels for the yurt we're building this weekend. Getting an extra roll of tape on Saturday, pretty much stoked to yurt it up!

Also got a solar powered pump for the swamp cooler. It's happening!!!

Woohoo! I was just about to do a search for this info... and then the master himself walks in with an answer!! Thanks FIGJAM!

Got our tickets today, wooohoo!

Also electrolyte powder, 'cause I hear it's the shit when you're thirsty and grumpy.

As of yet unsure if I'll be on the playa on eclipse day or not, but if not I am hatching a similar plan! Madras is actually the best place in the nation (lowest likelihood of cloud cover @ eclipse time) to see totality, but I'm anxious about traffic between Bend and Madras. Totally down for a meet u...

With normal, strenuous riding, the downward force of your legs takes much of the weight off your butt, and even a skinny saddle is comfortable. When cruising around BRC at 5 or 10 MPH, essentially all of your weigh is on your butt, and even a nerveless derriere will appreciate a wide, soft seat. GO...

Holy Shit!!! That is gonna be awesome!!!

What's fun is that this eclipse has a really similar path to the one that is coming on August 21 of this year, but the duration of totality in BRC is ~ 4 whopping minutes of solar awesome!

I'm gonna go change my pants now.

The great thing about you being a backpacker and a bit of a minimalist (or so it sounds) is that you will not be thrown off or deeply distressed by the arduousness of the trip. We are not all glampers, and you don't have to be either. You'll just have a very odd and longer-than-normal packing list....

What about bullhorns? Are those allowed? I sort of look forward to telling people they are doing it wrong.

Just sayin'.

lucky420 wrote:Nope go with the 6in bi tape. After the event it will peel off easy and then you can use panels again

Excellent!!! I already have the 6" tape, so that's an extra-double-plus added bonus!! Although I heard rumor that 6" tape was MOOPy... will put forth an effort to de-MOOP if so.

I started buying materials for my evap cooler (Lookin' at you, FIGJAM!). Cooling fan, duracool, DC pump, and now I want to build a whole 12V solar power system!! Look forward to building it up this weekend... Also I bought 6" bidirectional filament tape for my first yurt build, but now I hear that G...

The event is the most particular instance of glamping. You "need" all this stuff. The trick is to use it more than once a year. It's a perilous path. You will have a closet full of clothes you can't wear for work or at any normal social event. That means every party you have must have a costume the...

Thanks Elliot, Savannah! I have some Australian grade sunscreen that has served me well in the past - but a base tan is not a bad idea at all . I was planning on having a good hat, maybe a cape + sunscreen. I will definitely be looking into some shade structures - but of course at this point getting...

My playa ride sports a flag with lights on the pole. It's a 70's Schwinn, no gears and has been to the playa for ten years (I do maintenance when I get home, vinegar bath and chain oil). Two genius ideas right there! I'm gonna go mix up a batch of vinegarwater... Some of the more scummy humans will...

Oh hey, that's good news! Two miles isn't so bad, after all, BRC seems like it's also walkable! I was planning to do a bit of both anyway; there are benefits & drawbacks to both biking and walking, and I'd like to try both! Wait a minute... your bike rusted through??? Dang, playa, you crazy! Most im...

Thanks Ratty! I searched manually in the bikes & transportation section by year, but google search would have done it. D'oh!!

I'm curious about seat -furring, though. How does this discourage people from stealing your bike seat?

Hi There! First timer this year - curious about bicycle maintenance on the playa!! I already have a bike set aside for my use - it's been out to the playa at least once before (although I have not) and is a definite beater bike. I'll have it in my possession by the end of next week, and I'm not real...

The OMG is very, very limited. Start making inquiries and contacts as much as possible. Even the Main Sale is a crapshoot these days. Not too early to start looking for 2018 if this year falls through. But hey, a hexayurt at a national park may be interesting... Yes, yes, yes, this is what I need t...

Welcome aboard! If you need to ask for tickets, please look over the guidelines, then post in Tickets Wanted. No more than two tickets per person per request, please. Look at the Scalpers and Scammers post in Ticket Discussion also. https://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?f=512&t=80269 Would yo...

I'm so excited to be gearing up for my first burn this 2017 year! I've gathered a group (five of us all together) and we're pooling resources to pull this thing off this year. We've got materials for hexayurt building (6" tape!!), buckets for swamp cooling, batteries for LED lighting (light yo'self!...
