2008 Art Theme
I'm still digesting, and unsure of what to make of the theme for 2008. Burning Man 08 Art Theme 2008 Art Theme: "American Dream" This year's art theme is about patriotism -- not that kind which freights the nation state with the collective weight of ego, but a patriotism based upon a love of country...

Re: Departing on Sunday Morning
I am planning on departing Sunday morning. You are allowed to depart at this time, correct? Also, how is the traffic on Sunday morning? Thanks!! Leaving BRC on Sunday seems to vary. The later it gets it seems to take longer. In 2005, I left camp at about 11:30am and was out on the road by about 12:...

it really depends on how much stuff each person has. last year, we had a chevy uplander for 2 people and things just barely fit. no art installations. food, 2 big coolers, shade structure, clothes, lots of water, tents, supplies and a whole bunch of other stuff. we did pack too much and if we pack l...

... hmm, something about air mattresses on the ground -- bad. was told to put some sort of insulation barrier under the air-mattress. Don't remember the reason, or if the science is accurate It has something to do with the ground cooling and affecting the air inside the mattress. As the ground and ...

PLUS, they have a AAA discount, so if you have AAA, that's another little added bonus. You can also get a discount through Costco. I called Alamo today for a minivan rental for 10 days and mentioned AAA and was quoted $378. I went to the Alamo website and used one of the advertised specials on the ...

BREATHE, IT WILL BE OK
Thank you for the reality check, one and all. I followed the geometrydome.com instructions and made a PVC-and-rope dome all by myself yesterday. It is spacious and stable; it makes my self-confidence engorged and turgid. I feel capable regarding all aspects of my camp now. Good luck to all of you w...

ear plugs are itchy!
Just ran around like crazy until I was tired enough to sleep uninterruptedly... I found that to be the best remedy to ear plugs. I did not need earplugs my second year...Even with the camp across from my camp playing loud music. My first year I did use the regular type ear plugs from Wally World an...

Re: reply to Karr
You might consider sticking something between your shade tent and your van. If if it is well tied down, the wind can still cause it vibrate or shake; striking the van is likely. I'd also recommend wrapping three sides of the shade tent in either camo netting, burlap or another semi-open cloth. It w...

Re: Swedish Snow Netting works fine- used correctly...
My snow netting held up beautifully last year- I think this is the trick: Don't use it as side walls Don't use it taught- use rope & bungee if you plan to extend it between two things for overhead- Bungees allow it to move with the wind- My pieces from last year are still in perfect condition!! Why...

Majorsurplus ships fast too. We got camo net from them and used it in the front yard over our EZ-up frame for our Fourth of July gun cleaning party. We have two nets now because we decided to double the netting in some areas for deeper shade. It will be hung between the two carports and raised in t...

Hi Chai, It actually held remarkably well. I got there on Tuesday so I missed the wind from Monday but Thursday, it barely moved. I would look at it during some of the gusts and it wasn't moving. :D Yeah, I'm planning on it. Vegas is having a regional October 21-23, Roach Lake which is right by the ...
