Re: dry ice

This may sound weird but I am flying into Sacramento and buying coolers out there. I was hoping to use frozen water bottles in one cooler instead of ice and the other would have dry ice for frozen stuff. The problem is that I have no way to freeze my bottles. I am flying on the night of the 23rd and...

Re: Fuel Supply when coming from afar.

If someone is coming from afar and needs to fuel their generator I would imagine they would have to buy fuel containers when they land and fuel up for the drive in. Hell station is not an option so my question is...if people are buying fuel containers, what are they doing with them afterward? If th...

Foam mattress sizing

I was looking to move to a foam or mem foam mattress. I have to send on container truck, so I’m looking for something I can transport. Are there ones that fold up that people would suggest?

I was going to build a swamp cooler for my Shiftpod but if I am bringing a genny anyway, why not just use an AC. Can I run one of a Honda eu2200i? If so, any suggestions? Shipping Honda Genny

I was curious how people shipping eu2000s with container trucks are packing them. They don’t fit the stronger bins that people seem to use unless you lie them down.

Is lying them down a bad idea anyway?

Re: Did I plan this out wrong?

GREAT advice! I did move my departure to the 5th. I will leave on Monday the 3rd an have a hotel in Sacramento the night of the fourth. I’ll see if I can find something in Reno for Monday night. Is there an official rideshare place at the airport or is this like something through Craigslist? ... Rea...

Did I plan this out wrong?

I am flying into Sacramento. Leaving I for some reason also planned to fly out of Sacramento. I planned on leaving on the 3rd.getting to Sacramento at night and staying at a hotel and fly on on the fourth. I am driving solo at this point though that may change. Reading on exodus, I am starting to th...

Re: Evaporation System: Copper

What happens when the dust gets all over the towel? Will this affect that? Heat is not what evaporates water to any large degree on the Playa. It is the arid air, often in single digit of vapor percentage. A cheap plastic saw-horse, a towel draped over it with both ends dipped in and whicking the gr...

Evaporation System: Copper

Copper is a good conductor of heat. I was thinking of building a row of about 10 copper pipes that channel to a single pipe where grey water comes in. If left in the sun I would think these would heat up pretty hot. If I run the water through then at a slow enough rate I wouldn't even ned to pump it...

Was your mule tape shiny/slippery? I got 500ft for this purpose but when trying knots like a square knot, this stuf slipps pretty bad. I got 3/4 2500lbs I see mule tape used on this thread, but I am not by any means a knot expert. I don't want to leave to chance (or lack of knowledge) the ability to...

Securing your generator.

I was looking for a way to secure my Honda generator and ran into something called a LowPro Lockdown. You basically secure a baseplate to the Gen, then the other to a surface and then the two lock together, hiding the mounting bolts. I thought that I could mount the base to the Playa with lag bolts....

Oh geez Sham, that is spectacular! Get 5 gallon cans that seal real well. Look for CARB certified cans. Federal law saiz: 440 pounds of fuel in containers not larger than 8 gallons. It will be just like driving a 1960s VW beetle/bus. LOL Thanks Token. Ill just put it in the back. At least I'll have...

Re: Transporting Gas

Any tips on getting fuel to the playa? I’ll be renting a van but I’m pretty sure having (3) 5 gallon tanks in the back isn’t a good idea. Why do you need 15 gallons of gas on the playa? Is this for a vehicle? There are very specific guidelines for storing gasoline at Burning Man. https://burningman...

Shipping a Generator

I have a brand New Honda Generator. Never put fuel in it. I just found a post that indicated you could not put a genny in a Container truck if it has had fuel in it. that brings me back to thinking that the Propane conversion would be the better idea. Then I could ship it there and back.

Thoughts?

Great post! Thank you Got some real world playa experience for you. First, the Black Rock Rangers aren’t cops. They were created as a sort of search and rescue team so people didn’t hurt themselves. I wouldn’t be “that guy”. I clearly stated “I’m sure this is not acceptable on the Playa.” In RL he’d get beat down. I’m sure this is not acceptable on the Playa. If you “beat down” a bicycle thief in the real world you will be charged with assault and do more time than the thief. Like any city of 7...

Re: Re-bar or Lag Screws for a Monkee Hut ?

Thanks everyone! I just found out that the 2' lag screws I was about to order on fastenersuperstore.com have heads too big to fit inside my PVC anyway, so guess I'll just stick with rebar. What size PVC are you using? I’m doing a 15’x30’ and using aluminet. 1/2” 24” lags are the plan. 1/2 lags are ...
