It was your first burn....

My first year I arrived at dusk on Thursday. By the time the windstorm on Sunday busted my tent I'd recovered from the sensory overload & was thinking "next year I'll have a better tent... next year I'm definitely coming earlier... next year I'll have cool outfits for day AND night..."

I make "add-a-pocket" pouches from costume fabric scraps. Small 2 pocket pouches that have belt loops or can be clipped on to whatever you like with the included star-shaped caraibiner. Pouches include such necessities as sunscreen, candy, lighter, Alka-Seltzer, small handmade jewelery piece, some l...

The most amazing thing about BM!

Well, my nickname is The Amazing Miss E!

Otherwise, I LOVE how many wonderful people/costumes/art I see out at BM that just don't exist anywhere else on this planet.

Observations on first timers

My virgin year was 2004. I had just started hearing about Burning Man & the company I worked for at the time had a few burners as employees as well as freelance contracters. The Monday of burn week we had a meeting the end of which evolved into who was going to Burning Man & when. I said that I want...

I met my husband in October after my 4th burn. He had never been, but was very receptive to the idea once I started trying (in vain) to explain it. All through that year I was heavily involved in a large scale art project, and some days he even came with me to help. Then, during our first burn toget...

I think that's a great idea! I was tossing around the scavenger hunt idea, but with all the other preparations going on it slipped out of my mind. I can't think of a better place for a wild n wacky scavenger hunt than BRC.

I went as a solo woman last year & didn't have any problems. I set up my little camp by myself pretty quickly & made friends with my neighbors. However, just to be safe I didn't drink at any of the bars & I didn't accept food/drinks from random people (except for that delicious watermelon Otter Pop)...

When I went last year as a newbie I was fighting a nasty throat something-or-another that pretty much just left me tired with a really really raw throat. One of my little tricks for this year is a pair of fleece black leggings. Can be worn under all my costumes & removed easily if I get too toasty. I'm hoping for a roller coaster and the tea cup ride. Tilt-a-whirl. And some cotton candy. I did see a roller coaster last year. It was a big U shaped track & it had one oval shaped car that fit 2 people. The car got pulled to the top of the U & the dropped in freefall complete with tumbling motion...

Sunscreen: Coppertone Sport SPF 45 worked wonders for me. I'm very fair skinned & burn pretty easily. I used this last year & returned home as white as when I left. They last longer than the charge up ones, work the same way, and are priced much more reasonably. Hooray!

Once upon a time I was strolling thru a K-Mart & came across this little white ball that had 3 blue LED lights in it called a "Moon Ball". Forgetting things like all my costumes, the tent, all the glow stuff, etc. In some of my dreams people I haven't talked to in years came with me, and locations have varied from the beach to a park in the town I grew up in. What I found wonderfully handy around camp last year were good ole tap lights (yes, as seen on TV). These days you can get the 6 pack relatively cheap & it's easy to take em apart & color the white face to you little heart's desire. Only downside is that the large ones take 4AA batteries.
