Maybe we should assign the body / head / hand / torch pixels to people that have committed to large chunks, or that we know to be very committed to the project. Basically, participants that we can hopefully assume will be more 'reliable' and show up with the pixels. Then a lot of the random we'll br...

If you don't feel like buying a ticket then don't. Chances are at some point the playa will call to you. Then you won't wonder if you should or shouldn't. You'll know. Personally, my first year(2004) was so so. I had an amazing experience, but also saw some relatively disturbing things. I didn't kno...

Re: hey
Any thoughts on cheap efficient covers and perhaps good glues? My current plan is used billboard vinyl. LyinBare, some kind soul I found on tribe, sent me a few page word doc that goes over heat sealing billboard vinyl with a standard clothing iron. I'm starting to get curious about tyvek however. ...

The barrel makes sense. I had heard that building from the top down lends itself to bending struts. Something about the weight of the whole dome coming down on one or two struts. Using the barrel might relieve that however. Only having one tall ladder definitely was a disadvantage. We plan on having...

Here it is! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v609/counterjim/DomeDone.jpg It's about 14' tall and 23' wide. We set it up last Saturday. The fiancée and I had a potluck brunch for friends and family, burner and non-burners a like. A lot of people helped to set it up. It took about 4 and a half hours...

Re: Looking for pool
Would LOVE to camp next to a pool this year. Who has plans to bring one? I can give you all the hot water you want. Water would be used to cool laser setup. Last year I took 200gals and could run for 30on 30off looking to dump about 30kw of heat. I can bring a pool table... I brought a pool table l...

I think that every pixel should be grommeted in the corners, if possible, so that they can be linked together AND staked more easily. Or at least have cord tied/knotted into the corners, or zipstrips. And that large patches of pixels be sewn together, again where possible, to reduce on-playa assemb...

The links that were posted should give you good instructions and advice. Really most all of the knowledge you need is on the desert domes page. I just built a 24' dome. I bought my 3/4" steel EMT new, from an electricians supply store. It beat home depot prices by about $0.75 per 10' stick. The tota...

No worries airborne. I'll update the site as soon as I can. I just got back from a great weekend down in san fran. I stopped in at an art reception for burning man pieces and tried to spread the MegaPixels word. Hopefully we'll get some good interest from that avenue. I'm signing up for the list on ...

How's this for a quick and simple blurb: ---- Participate!!! The MegaPixels project will be one of the largest art installations in the history of Burning Man and will require the help of hundreds if not thousands of burners. We're organizing a theme camp that will be open to anyone and everyone wh...

Basically, let me know what you want from the web site, the more specific the better! You rock regionalchaos! For the last several years Burning Sky has used a simple signup form to keep track of who's going to be camping with us. It works really well since the camp is made up of people from all ov...

Re: cover
Marine shrink wrap. Yea, I saw that on the website. I have not seen it discussed in other "how to cover a dome" discussions. I am not familiar with it. I'll have to read up on it. EDIT: Also, the only critique I had about your site, is that the fonts on the menus are rather hard to read. Not a huge...

Also, My friends and I have been camping together for a while, there is easily a dozen of us. We are growing infrastructure wise, and will have a 24' dome and a 20'x50' military mess tent in our camp (probably used as shade for sleeping tents). Monday night (my b-day) I'm having people over to my ho...

The website looks nice. I'm curious about what you are using to cover your dome. I'll have to do some research on it!Rage wrote:The website has begun...still a ways to go but...
