Re: Gas in Cedarville?

water from the Cedarville tap tastes like shit! maybe it's just my opinion, but i'd rather buy the stuff in the plastic bottles.... thanks for the update on the 24/7 service hours. I thought you could only get non-potable water in Cedarville. This would be a factor in why it tasted like shit, I wou...

Re: Do YOU bring an "i" device 2 the playa?

I bring a tablet (not an iPad) because I have a wearable action cam, a ContourGPS. It communicates by BlueTooth to show its current framing and the settings for the camera can be changed by the tablet. Since the other option is guessing if the camera is aimed correctly on the handlebars of my bike (...

I got an all organic cotton, reusable mask through a volunteer staff ordering system, it has a logo printed on the mask and is not white, like the medical ones. Something like this, but customized: http://www.achooallergy.com/mask-organic-cotton-mask.asp Not sure how well it will work yet. I'll cert...

If you are hitching then you should find a decent number of people leaving really early on Sunday morning or late sat night ... I really can't recommend trying to catch a ride by luck and fate when you are expecting to catch an international flight out of Reno at the end of your ride. I was working...

Re: Best make & model dust mask & goggles

I just bought goggles from Amazon with transition lenses, thus they are great for day and night. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003LSJJJ6/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 The user review that the padding was comfortable, even with a big nose, we a selling point. So was the fact that they were nearly 10...

Re: How can you protect sensitive Electronic equipment

What makes playa dust corrosive is when it comes in contact with moisture. In the arid air of the playa this is not really a concern, but it is something you want to take care of before you get home. Use clean garbage bags to transport your gear and seal the bags (twist tie, maybe). Anytime you are ...

I'm out there three weeks while my wife stays home, so pre-event I'll probably make a call.

But I agree. The actual event week is a no-phone-week for me.

So one might ask if dunes are a "adverse" impact on the environment. They are, eventually, an inevitability for a dry lake bed, after all. This location is not designated as wilderness (kind of too late, what with mines all of the place...). I agree that the presence of Burning Man has an impact. He...

Yeah, AT&T, T-mobile, Sprint, Verizon, Cricket, and every other mobile phone network company are going to truck out cell-on-wheels, complete with generators and relay equipment, to a festival in the middle of a dried out lake in Nevada just so a couple of rubes can phone their buddies from the play...

Re: Leaving on Saturday After the Burning of the Man

So I decided to check the timestamps on my photos from last year: http://www.hieroglyphphotography.com/BurningMan/2011/Burn-Night/ The crowd crush around the Man started at about 10:30, so that might be a good time for a walk back to camp. I could look up when the Burn started (about 9:30pm), but no...

It can get below freezing at night (as in below 32F or 0C) so bring an appropriate sleeping bag. This is an exaggeration. Normally nights get to about 50F or slightly lower. It has NEVER been below freezing on-playa during Burn Week, even before the event moved to the playa. The lowest low ever rec...

The shuttle does not start until the event opens. People that enter the gate via Early Arrival are issued a special wrist band when they enter, or were in previous years. This and a ticket stub work as in/out privileges until Sunday AM . It is unwise to leave on Sunday, since the traffic lines are b...

Re: Gas in Cedarville?

Cedarville was busy constructing a brand new Chevron gas station on Townsend St. and Patterson during the Burn last year, supplementing the one station already there on Main Street. With competition, I'm sure they are both staying reasonable for the region. But Alturas is only 24 miles away. Yes, ov...

Also, Friday night is a much better night for organizing big groups to do things, like bands, processions and weddings. There are no immediate demands on them for later ...
