My two pence

Honey Wagon- Truck that JOTS uses to transport contents of porta-potties. Honey Sucker- Hose attached to Honey Wagons to suck out contents of porta-potties. I've always prefered the term "Poopacabra" (the shit-sucker) for these two collectively. Poopacabra: Near-Mythical but real monster which prow...

It was better...

When you could drag a toilet on a skid at 35mph and nobody complained about the dust.

When all the art cars parked with each other.

I missed the actual deconstruction, but I had a GREAT time watching the sun rise from the top of the structure on the morning it was to be destroyed. The wife & I hung out with a new playa friend and chatted with one of the several artists involved in the design. Good memories for me personally. But...

Sure, but they always show up...

"even then I saw the frat boy/gawker element getting kind of obnoxious later in the week" The article in the Chronicle (and any other media story, IMHO) isn's what brings the fratboy gawker crowd; they've been coming out to Black Rock since they started hearing about this cool party "where theres al...

I never tire of hearing live music on playa, but overused? I'd vote for anything described as "house".

Some new advice/rules for the first timers guide: 1-Stop worrying about the dust! 2-Don't assume a costume makes you or anyone else cool. 3-Don't assume a lack of costume makes someone uncool. What if they're dressed (in costume) as a frat boy? Ooh, there's an idea- organize a "critical frat" parade...

I've met people from every continent except antarctica at Burning man. Racially biased? I'm willing to bet BRC has a higher percentage of "colored" people (blue, green, gold, silver, ...)than any other city in the world. Seriously tho, if you don't see people of non white races there, you must not b...

The right people are going to get to brc. The wrong ones will to as well, but not everyone that goes to see a band is a fan. I've seen the media portray us every way since 96. We (brc/bm/bm community) are a public figure, and as such, are subject to all kinds of praise/interest/ridicule. Of what I'v...

On the scale of accurate representation of BM, I'd say it was better that average(tho far from perfect). Yes, errors, (see list below & add as needed) but the concept of how people react to BRC was very accurate. BTW, the bannana bike is an old burner regular. Its been out there since at least 99. L...

I've seen plenty of video footage of BRC on the telly since '96, and heard many gripes about how the event was portrayed. Some thumb rules I've learned: 1-The media is never going to get it right. Don't expect them to. They will show their version, which is different from everyone elses. 2-A tv show...

I told several people saturday that the org was so inspired by The Machine they had decided to take the man down and use him again next year. We've run our security checkpoint for several years now and never failed to entertain oursleves and at least 1/2 our victims.

K-IV, the Erowid article is pretty much dead on. And well referenced... Alt, you summed it up well re: don't buy sell trade. As to warning people, there's a whole section in the survival guide about what LEOs can do in BRC (when they have probable cause, what you'll get ticketed/jailed for, etc). Ma...

Well, lacking some details I'd have to say: if they sold any narcotics/controlled substances to anyone in the dome, and the deal was visable to either undercovers in the dome or law enforcement outside the dome, they pretty much screwed themselves (lesson to learn: don't buy/sell in BRC-stock up bef...

Sometimes the good ones are just as dissapointed to be taken. BRC is a place where one can be especially prone to meeting someone and connecting in seconds. The good ones might feel just attracted/lovestruck as the one cursing the status of availability. On the other hand, in BRC(and other places to...
