Re: On evap ponds...

Variation on a pumped cascade.

The MK VIIA evap and its variants can use the same 12v pump as the Figjam cooler, and run 24 hours a day off battery power.
Mine evaporated about 10 gallons a day last year.
Maybe $20 to build in 1 day.

A-rock, do you have some kind of alternate suggestion or plan?

You call 'championing the complainers'. I call it listen to the population and coming up with a plan that reaches good compromise for all parties involved.

Re: Solar chimney + unpowered swamp cooler

Best advice I can offer is this: Make it work in Default world. You have to get this idea to work in any form of the real world before worrying about if it can be done at the burn. Right now you are at a hypothesis stage. Time to build a functional test version and objectively measure input/output. ...

Re: On evap ponds...

You have plenty of time to build an evapotron or other options. They can be built over a weekend.

Plenty of good info on this thread.

Re: Directly driving 36v golf cart with 12v genny

What's wrong with using batteries? Either [email protected] or [email protected], depending on weight needs.

[email protected] is pretty standard, should cost $650-800 brand new.

Re: Directly driving 36v golf cart with 12v genny

Driving a 36v motor at 12v is a surefire way to burn it out. Probably when you least want it. 36v carts (especially a 1976) have like 4 parts. They are aesy to work on. My work cart (duece Anna half) is a 1996 36v, and it took 3 days total to rebuild from non functional. Most of that was waiting for...

Re: Solar chimney + unpowered swamp cooler

Clarification: A solar chimney relies on the chimney soaking up solar radiation to heat the air inside the chimney, causing it to rise, pulling air into the bottom. This effect would be producing the (slight) vacuum in question, not wind passing over the top of the chimney. How many bricks do you w...

But actually hearing bookfaces voicemaze options has firmly convinced me that decent human beings shouldn't use that medium.

I will post a whole new thread soon. Because you can't explain the horror in a single post.

Re: cooling your tent or van

After using crappy pads for a while, I just began making a new FCooler using DuraCool pads.

Problem: dry, the pad tube fits wonderfully well.
But when it gets wet, the pad compresses and doesn't reach the top of the bucket, preventing the seal needed.

Is this a new issue? Anyone else?
