I'm with Zaphodburner. You don't need to be a newbie to get the pre Burning Man jitters! There are a lot of details to tend to, supplies to be procurred and ready, all kinds of logistics. It's also an emotional and psychological preparation that can give you the jitters. I know I'm in for a pretty i...

I'm with cryptofish. I've seen tents rolling through camps like a tumbling tumbleweed. The playa surface is crumbly and won't hold a regular stake; you need to get down a foot or more, depending on conditions. See Bob Stahl's page at http://www.geocities.com/potatotrap/tech/bluetarp.htm and click o...

How well do tent stakes work on the playa?

This will be my first time tenting it, instead of sleping in an rv or van. I figure I'll need to stake my tent, because I know how the winds can get. I've seen lots of rebar used for bigger structures, but how well do regular tent stakes work on the playa? I've read that the soil pack is pretty hard...

If you're going to do drugs, you should know yourself and be an experienced pilot, because Burning Man can be like flying a jumbo jet. It's the only time of the year I'll do E or shrooms, but under the circumstances I think of them as much as a sacrament, or at least tool, as I do sources of psyched...

It's a gift if it's accepted  Seriously though, there's no pressure or obligation to give. "Forget what you give and remember what you get" I'm part of the Pinky's bar (new name, scaled down, similar location this year) and we give it all away. Lots and lots of drinks and tunes. Gifts are w...

That site isn't very reassuring. They don't seem to be officially affiliated with Burning Man. There was definitely a major scare that led to just about every radio station disappearing a couple years ago. And there used to be lots of them. Was it just rumor? Or did the people behind Burning Man eve...

It's a sad, disgusting reality that there ARE people who buy tickets just to show up to steal things. People get lulled into a false sense of security, are drunk, stoned, tripping, rolling, etc., and let their guard down. If you value whichever bike(s) you bring, I think it is totally worth taking a...

This is a bit of a tangent, but still maybe interesting. I don't know if they do it every year, but I recall at least one year where the man himself is placed in a way that you can see the sun rise up in the middle of his legs and rise up through the middle of his body, from 6:00(?). Anyone else kno...

The last time I flew in to Reno I was approached by three women at the airport, wanting rides up to Black Rock, and they had only just met each other AT the airport. I was a nice guy about it and happy to help, but I also refused gas money, which I probably shouldn't have, but fuck it... It was nice...

Be sure to check elsewhere on this site (I forget where) for locations of stores in Reno to get what you can't fly over. You can really buy anything you'll need there, but any unique costumes or goodies you'll of course want to fly over with you. A GREAT store for food is a place called Trader Joe's...

Killjoy. In the spirit of Crumb himself! I didn't mean to sound like a dick or anything. Just sharing my thoughts. Crumb is extremely reclusive and private. You take your chances when you choose a camp spot unless you camp in the Quiet Camp zone (yes, there really is one).
