I like to take pictures and I do so with a couple rules in mind. If nudity is incidental, or part of a crowd or background, not the focus of the shot, I don't ask permission. If someone nude is the focus of the shot because they are a friend, otherwise colorful, provocative, or yes, even sexually en...

Thanks for the report and sorry you didn't have a better time. I know you alluded to the weather a bit, but how constant were the winds and do you know what the temperature was, roughly, during the day and at night time? The center camp weather information gave me the impression it was colder than t...

He hath burned. Around 10:00 pst. This is the first time I watched a webcast of it 'cos I couldn't go. I think a lot of people were on at the time cos I lost the connection sometimes and had to reconnect, but I was happy do some jpg and avi screen captures to email to the friends who are there. <sigh>

anyone know the location of where the BM webcam is located at? You can see center camp to the right, and at night I could (barely) make out the man in the center of the screen. It would make sense for them to center it on the man, so I'm guessing the camera is around 6:40ish, maybe first street in....

Members of Pinkys crew will still be camping at the same spot. It's the establishment itself that won't be there.

I would love to hear about your experiences from prior years I was part of Pinkys (which always set up around 8:30 and about the 4th or 5th ring in). This is the first year there will be no Pinkys which is a bummer because it kept getting larger and larger each year (at a peak cost of around $9,000...

The webcam is up now and it's great to hear all the distant drums and yelps. They keep an external mic going but have also added in a feed from a dj (Black Rock radio?) and at the moment they're piping in the sound of some goofballs bickering on walkie-talkies, trying to find each other. If that wea...

It looks kinda windy. I can sorta make out the man himself in the middle of the screen. The changing graphics are a nice touch.

I'm straight, but from what my gay friends tell me it's easier in general to get laid anywhere if you are gay. Guys (gay or straight) generally have an easier time separating sex from emotion and are happy to get their rocks off for the pleasure of it. Less head games (no pun intended) too I'd imagi...

I appreciate your concern and desrie to know your wife is ok (which she is. You definitely would have heard from someone if anything was wrong. Good, caring people there), however, one of the charms of Burning Man is being cut off from "civilization" for a week. I'm one of the people who believes th...

Thanks Lawcat :D It occured to me after I wrote my post last night that it might also be an issue of bandwith. If hundreds or thousands of people are trying to access a view of the same cam at the same time there could be problems with a server or provider. Anyone here know anything about that?

I was wondering about webcams too. This will be the first Burning Man I'll be missing in a few years because my wife had a baby last month. Kinda weird knowing that as I write this my friends are coming on and tripping around the Esplanade and wherever else. As technologically cutting edge as Burnin...

Wowee! I'm part of the Pinky's crew and I'm blown away by all the supportive and positive posts. We're amazed more than anyone at the growing popularity of the place each year. With the myriad of playa attractions vying for everyone's attention it really feels good to know we make such an impression...

and that was the end of that. No surcharge. You're either very lucky or they'll hit you on your credit card bill. I've heard a lot of stories about hard ass rental places. We went for the High School fundraising carwash in Gerlach because we were in a bit of a hurry to make the Reno airport. They w...

It is incredibley naive to think 30,500 people are just going to keep it together and civil because they're "cool" or something. This anrachist fantasy that if there were no controls then we'd still respect each other is a load of severly reeky bullshit. I LIKE having streets (with names), a center ...

There's a bajillion things to do at Burning Man and a lot of kinds of vibes to stumble on. If you come upon a snooty, cranky, belligerent experience, then move on instead of fixating on it. (There ARE types who seek and embrace negativity energy though, even at BM). I only passed through Gigsville o...

A theme camp is also a home for the people working it, and like any home, there are times when the family inside would like some space and privacy. There is nothing rude about having a private party. It's all about how you respond to the people you turn away. It's not that hard to tell someone POLIT...

In my opinion, anyone with the gall to try to sneak in doesn't deserve any options but to leave. Further, I think the drivers and other passengers in the car should be made to do the same. Maybe print explicitly on the backs of the tickets that this will be the consequence if it isn't already. Sure,...

No one wants it to be like Disneyland <shiver>. Yes, it's about radical expression in a radical environment. My own camp, Pinky's Prim Patty, a pirate bar, had two tall crow's nest added this year and I was a little nervous about what they could lead to, but no one was forced to climb them (that I k...

Thank you Mutaytor for rocking the playa, and Pinky's in particular, so very well. I STILL can't get that song with the Ozzy samples and catchy bass line out of my head. What's it called anyway? And thank you anyone else who helped rock Pinky's. The crows nests endured and so did the crew, buoyed by...

Reconciling a Couple Tragedies

As part of my "come down" after each Burning Man I comb the internet and papers for reports, stuff I might have missed, disinformation, etc. I was saddened to read that this year a woman fell under an art car at 3:00 a.m. Saturday and died, and that there were two playa related plane crashes (with i...
