Re: Why weren't we placed?

In previous years the camp placement list has been "hacked" and released. It is not supposed to be public, as some camps don't want their location listed. (I don't know why they wouldn't, but that is up to them.) Last year the BMORG got better, and didn't get hacked! Sometime today I expect someone ...

Re: Cheap Booze?

No, it's not. There have been attempts to change such names in pro, college and high school sports. Typically, they are met with resistance. The Stanford Cardinals changed their mascot from something dicey in this manner to a tree, back in the early 70s or so. One of the few to actually do that. I ...

1. is there anything playa-friendly one can use to spike/hawk hair that also won't inadvertently turn it into one gigantic dreadlock for the remainder of the week? My only suggestion would be pretty permanent for the whole event. In the bad old days we used unflavored gelatin for mohawks. But it do...

Bought another pattern for the kimono. I think this one will work better for what I need than the one I have. It was pretty cheap ($5) so don't feel too bad about having to buy another. Re: Contact Lenses on the Playa

I wear extended wear contacts. I don't really change much for the playa. The playa is dusty and yechey and horrible. I can do that in my contacts. Heck, I can clean my contacts in a shot glass of vodka and be good for a week! If you need nice clean contacts, you will not have them on the playa. Even...

Don't put veggies in a cooler with ice. The veggies will just get soggy I go bad quick. There is a reason people have been keeping veggies in root cellars for hundreds of years! Potatoes, onions, shallots, carrots, etc, all hold up fine on the playa, If you keep them dry and out of the sun. Oranges,...

Re: Tent or Car Port

Crypto, A duffel for the poles is a good idea. Or wrap them up in a tarp, and then wrap a couple of bungies around the whole thing. An extra tarp and bungies are always useful on the playa. A problem you will have with many of the canvas tents is the door. Normally they don't go all the way to the g...

Re: Low Waste Tent/Mattress Solution (Coming from Abroad)

I don't know exactly where the people from Japan in our camp live, One lives in Osaka (I think), but I don't know about the rest. Tents with some mesh are OK. Even a Kodiak or Springbar will get some dust, you can't stop it. Kodiak and Springbar tents are awesome (we have three in camp). But a cheap...

Re: Low Waste Tent/Mattress Solution (Coming from Abroad)

Our camp has a group that comes in from Japan. Some of them have been coming for years (previous to being part of our camp). They would fly into SF, rent vans, and buy everything here. I don't think they would ever bring camping gear to/from Japan; only things they needed that are available here. Ho...

Re: Vintage Canvas Tents on playa

I camped my first two years in a similar tent. And it was good nylon, not canvas. I did wind block it with my pickup truck. Also, I bungied the external frame to pickup truck to distribute some of the stress on the poles. My old tent is still in use, a friend used it last fall. I might bring it back...

I think for the Booby Bar part of camps dues was 5 handles of booze (or mixers), plus beer; with 30+ camp members. For a 12 hour or so per day bar. This is for a full service, we have almost everything bar. And private stash, good stuff, was kept in a separate area. Yep, a bunch of us have done a fe...

My "junk pile" has raccoons living in it! The only "junk" I have around is horrible clothes from the 80s.

I can do great costuming and tailoring, but I have never been creative. I need to find someone with ideas, and I can do the the tailoring part.

You got the answers, sort of. Cook the bacon, then fry bread in it. "Spak". Yummy. Probably works with tortillas too. Cook other stuff in it, it is yummy! Burn it off in your burn barrel. It is fuel. Same as those drippings on your BBQ that cause flair ups. Mix it with Jack Daniels...and call me in ...
