Re: Tent Questions!

Carports work good for shade. And you don't need to figure out how to build it. But make sure to get good one with 8 nice thick legs. But monkey huts are nice. Rebar in general is overkill, but it does work. I use military stakes, and bring a couple of rebar just in case. A white color tarp over a t...

The one thing I would recommend to virgins; don't stress too much on the food. Bring food you would want to eat at home, but keep it simple. People often decide they need some special food for Burning Man, but if it isn't something you would normally eat, you probably won't want it on the playa. Tor...

I often cover mine in white tyvek or other camo netting.

It still gets hot during the day, but it helps in the morning.

Re: Recommendations for an old-lady-solo-new comer?

Back to the original question! Most any decent tent will work, if it is setup correctly. If it isn't really sturdy it will need some kind of wind block, and extra tie downs. Use you car, or your neighbor's truck, etc. One advantage of being in a group, it acts as a big collective wind block. Or get ...

Re: Previous Early Entrants Scrubbed from Lottery List?

I have had early entry since they started asking for them. Two tickets at $390.

And yes, same name and address the whole time.

But, EAPs are issued to Camps or Projects, not individuals. And yes, one year the EAPs were sent to me.

Get ready for a long drive in the middle of nowhere! Don't let the gas tank run too low! Take lots of pictures and post them for us to see!

You can stock up on essentials in Fallon or Fernley.

4-6 hour run time on three AA batteries doesn't seem very good? I have two strings of multi-color LEDs I got at OSH for about $15 each, and they will run all night on one AA. And they are solar. And it included a clamp as well as the silly ground stake. They should be available again heading into Ch...

"Flame Effect Pyrotechnic Devices" - "Propane Based Flame Effect Device" is a better description, since no pyrotechnics are involved, i.e. nothing explodes, it just burns.

I camp with Cpt Smashy (with a Springbar). We have never had problems. I use military stakes. Only use maybe 8. Re: Waterproofing your cooler food?

I use bottles also. Once the bottles run out I put the ice in a sealed plastic box. Ice in a box will only keep things mildly cold. If you want to really cold use the zip top bag trick.

And it is nice to have one cooler just for drinks, which don't care about getting wet.

There is a rest stop on I-80 just past Wadsworth. You (like tons of other travelers) could stop there! And then backtrack to 447 to head to BM. Once you hit 447 there is nowhere to stop. This year they are selling bulk water in Gerlach. But I don't know the details, it is posted somewhere here! Mart...

I normally cover my Springbar with the white tyvek snow camo stuff, and it is fine. But I also like to occasionally get up in the morning and go tour BRC when no one else is awake! Last year I never go around to covering it and it was OK. It helps to have something to the east to have partial shade ...
