Re: January 5, 2012 Sac Valley Meet-Up

No, the January 5th Meet-up at Sweetwater Restaurant is unchanged.

What we will be doing is have ~~~ another~~~ meet-up on the 3rd Thursday(Jan. 19th) somewhere up in the Roseville-Rocklin area.

A bit more research will be needed as to what would make a good location.

Re: January 5, 2012 Sac Valley Meet-Up

Hm.. I just looked a some photos of Loree's online, and while I see a large bar area, I don't see large tables with seating to put people. Can anyone along the i-80 corredor think of a place that will have tabled space with seating for, say, 20-30 people? Preferably, a place that has a side room or ...

Re:Sac Valley/Foothill Burners Cultural Exchange

Okay, let's do it!

I checked some photos of Loree's online. It looks like a big bar area, but I don't see a place where we can fit a lot of people comfortably.

Re: January 5, 2012 Sac Valley Meet-Up

I know about having to get up at Oh-Dark:30 in the mornings.

Thursdays tend to not conflict with all sorts of other events like Fridays and Saturdays do.

If we had an additional meet-up event (say, on the 3rd Thursday in January), do you think it would be attractive to Foothills folks?

Re: January 5, 2012 Sac Valley Meet-Up

(Thanks, mod, for correcting the header.) @Dr Pyro: How's the crowd on a Thursday evening in those places? Are there lots of places for seating? What's the ambient noise level like? Is it quiet enough for conversations to happen easily? (Or, will they allow a group to reserve a room or an area ahead...

Re: Sacramento Valley Burner Meet-Up

Yep, I think the 40 Acres site worked really well.

They let us make a reservation for a sizeable area in the place. (They've got a nice relaxed-industrial vibe going. Good coffee, a few microbrews on tap, and a wine bar!)

Re: I'm going to San Fran!... I think?

I often opt to park somewhere along the BART line in the east bay and take the BART train into San Francisco. Parking is usually a nightmare in San Francisco. More so during special holidays. If you can find a place in someplace like Hayward, Castro Valley, Walnut Creek, or Orinda, it'll probably be...

Sacramento Valley Burner Meet-Up

Come out and meet some fellow Burners! For December, we're trying a new location for the Greater Sacramento Valley meet-up. This industrial/rustic coffee place has more room for us and a quieter atmosphere. Old Soul roasts their own coffee beans, bakes pastries, and serves salads, sandwiches, and so...

Re: Sacramento Valley Decom - Burn the River

The "Burn The River" Decom was really fun! Damp weather or no, a lot of fun-loving burners were out there in playa wear and dancing around the Rio Ramaza site. Lots of people were camped there, so they wouldn't have to drive home when they were tired. There was a hula hoop workshop, a giant Jenga bl...

Ya know...

There's a place for people who don't mind having spectators pay for watching their efforts. It's called "Las Vegas". It wouldn't surprise me if one of the Vegas casinos makes a "Burner-themed" casino hotel someday to cash in on all the interest. A friend of mine once said that if Vega had amotto, it...

This is such a sad postscript to this thread. I discovered this thread after my first burn: 2003. I'd had an amazing event. Some of the newer Honda generators are very quiet when operating. Seriously, they are quiet to the point that you wouldn't need to make an enclosure to muffle the sound. of course, the problem would be that you'd want something concealing it so thieves wouldn't try to walk off with it. Would it have solved anything to make it clear that it was only a ride and that you weren't going to be camping together?

on interviewing

It might be easier to just spend time at local burner socials throughout the year and just keep an ear out for folks that might need a ride. That way, you can meet the people and get to know them a bit before you ask them to ride with you. I don't know about taking people "out of the blue" that have...
