Darn it all

Even though we weren't camped that far away, we didn't make it over to say "hi" and have a glass of wine this year.

Do y'all make it to any decomps inthe Fall?

VAriety in music genres

Wow...i think this year's event had the most varietyy in any of the past 6 years! I was camped out near the 4:30 plaza (close to the ketchup bottle). I loved being able to walk along and hear music coming from one camp, and be able to walk away from the "zone" there and into another camp's sphere an...

That's a well-done first-Burn account...and with good photos.

I laud your ability to put the experience into words. I had an amazing first burn in in 2003. So many amazing experiences that I had difficiluty expressing each one adequately, much less put it all into a coherant narrative.

In the Nugget downtown, there's a diner

Nothing much to look at, but they have the "Awful Awful" (burger special.
Awfully ~good~., that is.

5 bucks for a generous sized beef patty with generous condiments. Lots of french fries on a bed underneath the big burger. good buns.

Yummm.

Not the flu

A couple of friends that I camped with got sick, but I was okay.

I was really wiped out and tired out for the week after returning from the playa.

I read that in the newpaper on the Playa

So, this year, there were incidents reported and a suspect was arrested.

If this guy is a repeat offender, so much the better that he was nabbed this time.

I fear that the great success and popularity of BRC is leading to the attraction of bozos like this who come to hunt and prey on people.

The book

I just finished reading "The Man Burns tonight". My bf knows the author from SF conventions. he'd been telling me about this friend of his who made notes for a book from his experiences from the 2003 burn (which was also my first BM). I liked it. It was a nice way to 'return to the Playa" for a litt...

Techni Ice

I found some of this stuff at building C at the Calif. State Fair going on in Sacramento, now. Middle aisle, near the center. It's pretty neat stuff. Quited sheets of plastic with polymer beads that swell when soaked in water. Freeze it and it has a better melt profile than regular ice. Stuff stays ...

I've been caught out backpacking before. OB tampons and ziploc bags make it all work out. bring some Baby Wipes for cleanup, too.

out in the desert,

....leaving all the sticky stuff on long after the "exertions" would mean good surfaces for playa dust to cake onto in clumps.

I don't think that I'd agree with the tie-in between wanting to be clean and being too squeamish for good sex. In some cases, maybe, but certainly not all.

Backpacking supply places

like MEC would have freeze-dried meals.

I've heard that they taste good, etc., etc., but they are pretty price-y.

If you want to experiment with making your own meals, drying them, and then sealing them in a Food-Saver wrap, there are resources on many backpacking sites online.
