Re: Sealed wheel bearings for Cruisers?

Grease is a much better choice, or even oil. But, if it got the bike working for someone... I was doing meat ball repair to get the bikes back on the playa .. Maybe I can set up a grease injection system .. I use turkey baster injectors for this by breaking the tip off and mashing the end slightly ...

We were swamped with Bottom Bracket rebuilds Wednesday on. It was a surprise we managed to handle well. I'd be interested in an upgrade too for camp bikes.

All the years of people getting dragged over the coals for taking clearly abandoned bikes or even hauling out the bikes they loaned people through their camp and ..... I guess I am finding the polar shift a bit messed up. If I'd known I could have hi graded that bike pile as I left I would have.

Re: Conduit. Let's come to a decision.

I like a safety factor and so that is why I recommend 1". Additionally for what it's worth I think the 1" EMT is more resilient than 1x1x1/8" square tubing. I could be wrong...I'm not a physicist or structural engineer. My original shade that I still bring is made out of square tubing and that was w...

Re: Conduit. Let's come to a decision.

I'd go with 1" Haven't heard of any failures of 1" structures and hearing of a number of failures with tubing smaller than that. In the future you could scale up the area of the shade confidently with 1" tubing. I would use 14" lag bolts minimum being that many years the top 6" of playa has no holdi...

The Civic plazas are at 3:00 and 9:00 at Breath, centered 3180’ from the Man, There are two Art plazas at 4:30 and 7:30, and two additional plazas at 3:00 and 9:00 at Genuflect,cent...

Re: Any tips for hauling a trailer you can share with a newbie?

You are using the pickup truck to position the trailer correctly as you drive. Kick the tires every time you stop for fuel or restroom and give the trailer a once over look. Look at the hitch and hitch area every time you stop to make sure it is normal and nothing has worked loose or become disconne...

Re: Flat roof tarp shelter, advice needed.

The secured shade cloth holds the whole top together. I welded up my own connectors long before I found out about the premade ones and I have never had one come apart and it doesn't have any eyebolts or pins. Tightening the eye bolt on to the conduit gives the frame a little more rigidity. You won't...

I've found EMT structures to be much more reliable than wood. Wood can be made bomb proof out there but it involves much more work than building a Flat shade out of EMT.

Artery should be able to help you with this question. Shoot them and email. It's common to see artists vehicles at the site of their art when they are setting up and tearing down.

Re: FL Burners - flatbed RV to Reno - anyone else doing same

FYI. Here is my wild guess. Your Rv is over 10 feet tall and so will be coming out on a 53' step deck trailer. The front deck will be in the neighborhood of 10 feet in length and so the total usable deck length for anything over 10 feet tall will be about 43 feet. Some crafty loading may change that...

One poster above used "round grippers" that failed. For that poster I advise: There are several varieties of grippers out there. Below is the one I use. Bunch up two or three layers of the shade cloth, get a piece of wood under the bunched up shade cloth with the "grippers" teeth already engaged, a...

My biggest shade cloth pieces are 20x40' and are unfinished on the edges. I used the round grippers that have a hole in the middle of them. It's a huge pain in the ass. Some of them fail every year. It's not optimal. I have other pieces of shade that are double reinforced taped edges(really means se...

CB radio seems to get very little use on the playa. Usually consumes quite a bit of power in the vintage hand held models I have used but if the mobile units are on a vehicle then no worries about power. The small multi channel radios that many people use for camping and road trips are so over used ...

There are places all over the US that make shade cloth to custom sizes. Mostly for agricultural purposes. Re: How to strap a hexayurt to a roof rack

I'd use thicker plywood. It's cheaper than 1/4 inch typically, will provide a more rigid package and protect the edges better. Gut wrap the sandwiched package with 2 ratchet straps and one lengthwise. Then load on rack and tie down to luggage rack or through the tops of the doorways or both.
