All ended never to return when a man on a motorcycle drove over someone in his very own tent. Streets are a responce to that first festival death. At that time (96) participents numbered in the 100s not the 10s of 1000s. There's some garbled info in this quote. The first "official" death was a man ...

Folks concerned with lack of street signs should maybe consider bringing a fat permanent marker pen. You can leave a trail behind you, much as Hansel and Gretl did with their bird crumbs, only the BRC version would be to write the correct street names onto each signpost you pass.

Another key ingredient to "getting it" is to be involved year round. The Burning Man community hasa lot to offer besides that big camping trip in the desert. For those (such as yourself) in the Bay Area, there are weekly opportunities to attend events, volunteer, etc. And for those in other regions,...

Tancorix, Do you honestly support some sense of "entitlement" that extends to exceeding safe speeds and/or driving under the influence? That's what I meant by obeying the same rules that everyone must follow. DPW placarded vehicles can still be driven within BRC en route to "official business", but ...

um, no. DPW makes a tremendous contribution of time and effort to build the city. But during the event itself, DPW members are subject to the driving rules just like everyone else.

I'd suggest that the nap space should be in open air, under shade. It just gets too hot too fast inside a tent.

a hand held mister in front of an electric fan can be amazingly cooling in the shade.

All of the above is good advice. I'd reiterate the suggestion that ice is always a welcome gift to folks running bars. Also, it's a good idea to bring your own cup. Many camps don't provide them, and disposables are a big MOOP problem. If you're so inclined, personalizing your cup with decorations o...

Make sure you ask the Greeters about which areas of the city are open camping vs. reserved for theme camps. Unfortunately, if you set up in one of the reserved areas, you'll need to move your tent and camp elsewhere when those folks show up.

I heartily second the recommendation to spend time together before the event. I'm thinking that even your art vehicle would be visited by rangers if you parked it in the middle of nowhere. Well, I am a Ranger, and had no qualms about having sex with my partner in an art car on the open playa. Advice: Don't try to go outside the trash fence. You'll be picked up by the folks w...
