I'll be removing a couple of large cottonwood trees in my backyard this spring. If you want me to save out big pieces of the trunk for carving a masthead, let me know..... :D Unfortunately, that fresh wood will check and split beyond recognition. I'd recommend seasoned wood or some sort of composite.
