In the "residental" areas, a dB limit would be nice but not necessary IMHO. There are earplugs.

Last year, I was still thinking about the same after having all the dust come in through the meshes of my tent. But after this year's Nowhere (Euroburn) which was equally windy and dusty, I have decided to not bother trying and accept the dust. It's inevitable. It will get in your tent, no matter wh...

Visit www.euroburners.org - there are several mailing lists, including one in German.

Also, Nowhere is a great substitute or addition to Burning Man:

It's an annual festival in Spain, based on the same principles a BM.

Just to chip in mi $0.02, I bought a $50 Coleman dome tent at an outdoor store and together with four pieces of rebar, it withstood all the wind of 2006 (and we left late, so we got some strong winds once we were the last ones on our block). We'll see how it looks like after this year's Nowhere and ...

I wouldn't be surprised if 100 years from now Burning Man becomes an actual religion. It hast most of the major ingredients anyway: prophets and legends around them, fundamental rules of conduct ("leave no trace"), symbols, rituals and a rite of passage (your virgin burn). Members of the religion ar...

I can't find that link any more - I once read a report online from a christian who went to Burning Man expecting the pagan orgy other christians warned him about. playa dust will turn metal to rust very quickly.

I brought a brand-new $100 bike to the playa last year. We stayed for five nights. When I unpacked it an wiped off the dust, it was rusty already. Also bring a rug and lubricant. I was cleaning our camp's bike chains after three days.

I so hope we're going to see that. I've seen 'electronic' music genres (Drum 'n Bass, House) plaid by bands and it was beautiful. Just listen to The Bad Plus playing Aphex Twin!

I'm guessing you're much better off in that water than So Cal beach water. That's what I'm thinking too - I close my mouth when surfing. Any lake or ocean you've ever been swimming in is likely to be as dirty as the water truck water. So it's not Evian that I'm showering in, I can deal with that. H...

2- Chase the water trucks while shouting ecstatically and discreetly ogling the naked beauty around me.! Nothing beats being waking up to the sound of the trunk's horn, running out of your tent, scattering your clothes behind you and taking a fresh morning shower in water of unknown origin. I had o...

Camelbak + vitamins + minerals = no hangover despite large amounts of Scotch.

Also, solar garden lamps over my tent's rebar are to blame that I didn't trip over them at night.

There are Tai Chi sessions mentioned in the event calendar. I don't know what level or style they are, but I'd expect that there will be enough people there to find someone of your level to practice with. Or if by any chance you should run into me, I can teach you some basics of Sun Tai Chi.

If somebody has an 1h slot to fill, I'd be bringing along my CDs and can DJ some abstact electronic music. Stuff like monolake, Matmos, Aphex Twin etc.

I can also bring some kitsch stuff, 60s French beat music or the likes.
