I vaguely remember a wonderful piece that was written by a college student who had run out of emergencies to pretend to have as an excuse to miss the first w...

...that the inhabitants tend to range from ages 30 and up. I dont think thats true at all. Burning Man hands out questionaires every year for a census. While not everybody returns one, I'd think that its fairly representative. It has a pie chart for the age, and you can see that 4% are under 21 and...

Re: The survival of Burning Man

I have heard that the Bureau of Land Management has doubled the playa use fee in each of the last 3 years. Do you have anything to back that up? I just spend 5 minutes browsing the BM website, and here is what I found: BLM Fees: 2001: $502,000 2002: $572,000 2003: $603,656 2004: $707,808 2005: $710...

New Highres Satellite Pictures from 2006 on Google

Not sure if it was posted already, but both Google Earth and Google Maps have posted high resolution satellite pictures from 2006. They nicely put this years city into its new position and left the old picture of the empty city in the old location: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=gerlach,+nv...

Our camp had a small collection area for used lumber, which was to be sent on to Katrina victims and used for rebuilding destroyed homes. The Waffle fire was quite spectacular and all but seemed like an example of waste for the sake of waste, without a whole lot of art in the equation. According to...

Personally I'd like to see a cap on sales, but how do you do that? What if only half the people of a village are able to get tickets because some sort of lottery system is used? What about selling blocks of tickets to theme camps and then a lottery system for the rest? Even right now with tickets b...

Actually it was over 39,000, so if 40,000 was indeed the limit, then we came fairly close.

There are some satellite images available, which are oriented with N to the top, so you can tell how the city is positioned. Here is one from google maps http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=gerlach,+nv&ie=UTF8&ll=40.754604,-119.234834&spn=0.023797,0.059395&t=k&om=1 and one from flickr http://ww...

Cool. Since you were there, care to pass on some firsthand information to us?

Hows the weather this year? Hows the playa consistency?

Re: Incredibly easy solar oven directions!

This popped up on google today, and I thought I would share it with all of you. Haven't tested it myself yet, but it's so cheap and easy, it seems like it's worth a go! http://www.wikihow.com/Make-and-Use-a-Solar-Oven My friend built a very similar one. See here for pictures: http://www.flickr.com/...
