Stack, I like your Pepino cooler! It appears it would use less energy and water to run. On the one hand, more energy and water = more cooling (we have actually needed a down sleeping bag at times). On the other hand, the energy and water requirements of our set-up are easier to manage with shared ca...

Portable Solar Evaporative Cooler Plans

We have used these for 8 years on the playa, and have found them to be very effective. Finally getting around to posting and sharing the plans.

Every time you read something on here, repeat to yourself "E-playa is not THE playa". You know how, when you ask people how their vacation (or day, or date, or whatever) went, and they cant wait to tell you about the missed flight, or the filthy streets, or the overpriced restaurant, instead of the ...

No matter how bad my day was today, it was better than being the person who got the seat next to you on that 8 hour flight back to England.

Avins, if you like that music clip, you REALLY need to come to Burning Man! You may get a lifetime's worth in 7 days, 24 hours a day. My best guess is Opulent temple, because of the empty view to the East, but it's really impossible to tell. Bassnectar was playing sunrise at Opulent on Sunday mornin...

Empty Folgers coffee container. Find someone who works in an office building have them scout the coffee maker/break room, and they're free. They have a wide lid, good seal, short, about 1 gal size. Augment with some 'blue stuff' from an RV store. It's the stuff that's used in RV toilets to keep the ...

Boy, does this sound familiar! Both my wife and I have had the same conversation the past few weeks. This was our 6th year of 7 (skipped the Crude Awakening year, just so we could work on other projects thru the summer. How does it take 2 months to prepare for a one week event?). We brought 4 virgin...

Does anyone have any updates on this? Some friends saw this, too, and later reported that the one guy who hit and dragged on the playa after coming in WITH the wind (generally a bad move) had main chute problems, released the main and came in on his reserve chute. The main chute was the one (withou...

Hot Topic at Thunderdome? Sugary buds?

What was up with the Hot Topic sign atop Thunderdome early in the week? Someone informed me that it was a logo for some mall-rat goth clothing store or something...And what about the flying ad banner for "sugary buds". Was that really an ad for some pot growers fertilizer or something? I'm so far ou...

1) heed above advice 2)have a plan B: in case Playa Info computers are down, make a plan for your camp to post info AT A SPECIFIC PLACE on the Playa Info bulletin board i.e. farthest lower right corner as you look at the board (s). Those boards can get crowded. 3) Plan C: screw it. Find your own cam...

Suggestions for posting how-to projects

I'd like to share how-to-make instructions for a home-made swamp cooler that we're been using for years on the playa with very good results. Do you have a suggestion of a website or some other method that is 1) REALLY user friendly 2) free 3)set up so people can share how-to projects? I'd like to po...

Playaflies in '09?

Anyone bringing their Playaflies this year? Interested in swarming the Man? There was a swarm last year, Thursday at 9PM as I recall. Lets do it again!
If you know, you know. If you don't:

Sounds like fun! I got my wife stilts this Christmas so she could experience Burning Man at a higher level (she's 5'0''). We'll see y'all on Thursday. Looking forward to a tour of stilt bars. We'll sniff some out on the 3:00 side to add to the agenda.

Seems i remember a mention on e-playa about sourcing the plastic that covers loads of lumber-in-transit from a large home supply store. They probably just throw it away. It's a possible alternative.

How do you use RV A/C?

OK, I have no experience with RV's. This year we are adding an RV (stuffed with virgins) to the camp. The previous 6 years we have used solar power for the camp and home-made swamp coolers for domes and trailers. This rental RV will not have the option of adopting our tried and true technology. So, ...

After several years of not eating much while on the playa and hating the clean-up that happens when you do prepare food, I came upon a great way to eat really good meals. I stand corrected. It is a Dimetrodon. Which, get this, is not a dinosaur, but a pelycosaur! Now that everything we need to know is on the 'net, all we need our brains for is drugs and sex.

Just a thought on the 'random gift conundrum-good or bad'... It so happens that one of my favorite gifts was a plastic dinosaur, given to me on some spun-out night while I was waiting for Hamsalila to start, or at least show up (which describes many of my nights at Burning Man). Anyway, I'm just sta...
