Re: This Tent Mahal good for anything?

Too much mesh for me, personally. But as a loaner...gift horse and all that. I tented outside the RV for my first 7-8 years, but my big tent had small mesh panels that I covered with blanket material that I stitched to the panels. Didn't eliminate dust, but certainly minimized it a great deal.

Re: Will Burning Man sell out?

Last year was my first and if that was considered bad weather I must be a lot tougher than I thought I am. There were a couple pretty cold nights and the major dust storm Thursday but other than that, to me the weather wasn't bad at all. The days weren't particularly hot and most evenings weren't t...

:!: I MUST HURRY TO POINT OUT THAT THE LEONARDO DA VINCI WING WAS NOT BUILT BY ME. It was built by others, and I am merely its curator. (It was in danger of going to the dump for lack of storage space.) The builder will of course be duly credited with signage at the display. http://i46.photobucket....

Kudos to John=O Ranch

I have to give a big shout out to the John=O Ranch in Cedarville, CA. The John=O Ranch is listed in the JRS Burner Resources edition as providing water for Burners coming down from the Northwest through Cedarville. I have been tanking up at the ranch for the last 4-5 years. As usual I call ahead a w...

Slightly OT, but those coming down from Cedarville will encounter a few uphill, manageable grades, but there's a looong downhill thru narrow, winding canyons approaching Gerlach. Heavier vehicles are advised to use lower gears and obey the speed limit signs. It's also open range and every time I've ...

I dunno, but it looks like there's about 50% theme camps and 50% open camping, someone chime in here...maybe more maybe less...but that's still a lot of open space. I got in last year at about 1:00 AM Monday morning and found plenty of open space toward where Grey Coyote suggests. Lots of folks veer...

I've run about the same size rig. My last stop for gas is Cedarville coming in from the north 100 miles to the playa. I calculate my gas mileage along the way from home...average 8-10 mpg. I "worse case" it and go with 8 mpg. I also figure I'm going to be in the line getting in and out (Exodus) abou...

That, too, Elliot.

On my point, when a seller tells a potential transferee that after the money has changed hands he can't give him anything to verify the validity of the transaction, the transferee has a big decision to make.

Go with a pair of old ski goggles. Most sizes will fit outside the eye orbit plus they usually have a soft spongy seal. That, plus a shemagh and you're set!

And getting back on topic, my cheapo family-sized car camping tent has withstood 25+ years of camping, 8 of which were on the playa. And it's ready to go again. Besides staking down and guying out a tent, the weight of your gear inside the tent will also help hold it in place. Positioning the tent a...

Re: how does a regular tent hold up at Burning Man?

For my mesh I sat next to a cooler full of Coronas and spent about 4 hours stitching sections of blanket material to the outside of the mesh panels. Does an amazing job of minimizing the dust sifting in. Find a tent with as little mesh as possible. The worst that can happen is you'll spend more time...

Hi! Me too. I just bought a little tent that I will stake with rebar and hope it doesnt fly away... 8) It won't fly away...it'll just be shredded in place. For a smallish tent rebar is overkill. All ya need are enough 10" aluminum tent stakes...the nails...to stake it out. They pound in flush...the...

Re: Advice needed on 2 man tent for 1st time burner

Best to have something you can stand up in...it's a bitch changing clothes laying down and if you're doing costumes you'll change 2-3 times a day. It's hard finding a tent w/o mesh in the lower price ranges. Most of us modify by stitching blanket sections cut to fit the mesh windows. Without this th...
