Re: How did you get here?

I'm perfectly willing to believe that they find the main site and then the bbs. People do process information differently... So you're telling me that this girl first went to the Burning Man website which prominently displays the following: http://www.burningman.com/sections/homepage/head_leftcol_b...

How did you get here?

I keep wondering how these newbies find eplaya without going through burningman.com in the first place? It doesn't come up on Google if you type "Burning man" anything. It's not a separate domain. And if you hit the BM site, this isn't the first thing you're going to click on. Is there some direct l...

Newbies bringing newbies

..brought 2 newbies(a couple) I knew the male of the couple well, but not the female. She turned out to be a pwer tripper, and almost ruined the whole event for me. Next year-let someone else bring the newbies... The problem isn't bringing newbies, the problem is letting the newbie you know to bring ...

I always sneak into NigNog. I never pay him.

I do this on principle. I don't believe in giving money to a lame-ass troll who destroys our BBS. It's amazing how easy it is to breach his security, a couple of beers will do it. Once I'm in, I find it very easy to leave him to sponge off later--so I don't even bother bringing supplies (except for ...

Public land?

I am wondering how anyone can prohibit or regulate cameras, still or video, or the act of taking pictures or videos on public land at a public event? I'm willing to bet you a $707,000 check to the BLM that it's not public land for that week. If you get caught trying to sneak in the BLM tickets you ...

Less alcohol

We stopped offering drinks after that, just didn't want the hassle or the attention from people with badges and guns. As a general comment, I wouldn't mind seeing a little less alcohol on the playa. It seems that most of the really aggressive, nasty behavior on the playa has the formula "alcohol + ...

Re: getting more than i bargained for...

Silly you! If the bartender was unwilling to tell you what was in it, why did you drink it? Bullshit . Many times people will say something like that because they don't want to say what alcohol is in it. Of course you should assume that drinks in a bar have alcohol. However, the bartender (or anyon...

Re: rape on the playa

Also a lot of women don't pursue rapists because of all the legal hassle involved and the necessity of continuing to bare your pain in a very public way, not to mention opening yourself up to the defense lawyer's attacks that can often accentuate or prey upon the pain. This points to a big mistake ...

jail

While I recognize that it's difficult in many cases, I would like to see more of an attitude that favors arrest and prosecution in these cases. Granted, it may or may not have worked in this case, but I think that should be the bias. Right now, these guys have the potential to ruin a girl's life, an...

Suggestions for BMORG for 2005

Here's a couple ideas I came up with for the Org to consider for next year: 1. Increase the number of low-income/artist tickets - I heard a lot of people complaining about the ticket prices, but any event that can attract 35,000 people isn't exactly pricing itself out of the market. The trick is mak...

I remember leaving Danielle on Monday night at 2am because I had to do a shift even though we were having a great time. Never saw her again. Another thing...

1. If you wander away from your friends at night, then they're gone and you won't find them again. Don't spend hours trying. Just go out and find something/someone else. 2. There will always be more things going on than you can possibly do. You will miss cool things. Let it go. 3. If you're going to...

Oh, hey, whoever that was riding the bike that tossed me the lip balm on a string someplace near center camp, thanks, you have no idea how much that helped. Things I learned this time...

1. Bring warm stuff that's also artistic - I fortunately brought enough warm things to wear for Thursday night, but sacrificed all attempts at costuming in the process. Next time, they will be warm and interesting. 2. Limit the amount of food that needs to be refridgerated - I brought sandwich meats...

My thoughts

I was there Saturday - Sunday AM (8 days) and the wind was fairly gusty from the Southwest on Tuesday. Wednesday it really picked up and caused trouble, although I was amazed that my little $37 tent dome stood up to it all. Thursday afternoon the wind backed around to the Northeast and proceeded to ...

OK Reverend, you deserve real answers as to why this story seems at best incomplete: 1. i was ecstatic b/c the man was gonna burn in about an hour... i felt great . i was approached by a female ranger who asked how i was doing as if she couldn't tell i was really happy I would guess that if a ranger...

Booty call?

I'm a little confused here: you post a long topic about being falsely accused of sexually harrassing a woman ranger, and finish the post with a cartoon of a topless woman flashing her tits at Death, and the words "Booty Call".

That doesn't exactly give me a warm, fuzzy, innocent-nice-guy vibe.

How many?

From my personal experience I have found that a SLIT in a tarp can make a buzzing sound that will quickly prey on your sanity....make a flap, or install a mesh porthole (!) or simply layer smaller tarps. Tarp tethers: I just got a 12 x 12 heavy silver tarp to put over my tent and I was wondering the best way to tie it to the rebar stakes on the playa. Not "Jail Bait"

One thing to keep in mind is that the age of consent in Nevada is 16 for heterosexual activity (18 for homosexual), with no upper age limit for the partner. That means that you cannot count on some guy's fear of the law to keep him from cosying up to your daughter. She is not "jail bait" in Nevada. ...

This question has been asked and answered several times before. The latest figures are from the 2002 burn and are at: http://afterburn.burningman.com/02/financial_chart.html

I'm still waiting for the 2003 Afterburn report. I wonder if they'll get it out before the 2004 event?

Time for new 2004 Sections

It seems that everything 2004 is now funnelled into the increasingly misnamed Newbie Information section, or back in the 2003 topics. I would suggest adding 2004 top level sections for the Vault of Heaven theme, Theme Camps & Art 2004, and maybe Music Sections. And later, ride shares.

What for? Bake 'em before you get there and keep them well wrapped. I assume you're not eating these brownies for their poppin' fresh taste.

Where some questions belong...

Besides, you coming here and asking how to get alcohol is reminiscent of a six year old asking her parents if she can steal from the cookie jar. You should know what the answer's gonna be by now. I second this. Eplaya is run by the BM LLC and thus they have to be somewhat careful about what gets sa...

I'd rather catch the baseball, but it has nothing to do with acceleration. The issue with art cars traveling at any speed is MOMENTUM: p = mv. An 3,000 pound art car traveling 5mph still has much more momentum than, say, a Burner on a bike. This means that when they impact, the Burner goes *bounce*...

Pedantic

f=ma I believe you mean force = mass * acceleration squared . Which is why a smaller mutant vehicle crashing into the man at 30 mph will do way more damage than a big mutant at 10 mph. Or, put another way, would you rather catch a 6 oz baseball going 60 mph or a bullet weighing 1/20th as much movin...
