New agey

Last year was my first year, and I only went Thursday through Sunday because I was worried it might be a bunch of Sedona-style New Age hippies talking about energy vortexes and finding their chakras. The only thing that really convinced me to go was that a lot of my friends went and I knew they were...

No

On any given day at BM about 75-80% of women there have their tops on. Higher at night. You and your covered boobies will be in the vast majority.

Except for the requirement to have sex with gate staff and greeters upon your arrival at BM, no one really expects you to be exposing yourself.

Disclaimer: I haven't read all the new rules & regs regarding Mutant Vehicles that have been released to cover the 2004 event yet. My understanding of past policy is that any motorized vehicle which can accomodate a seated driver and/or passenger(s) required DMV approval to operate during the event...

Re: Fair warning

I think that's a good idea. In fact, if I were working the gate I would get up to the car, ask how many, take the tickets, and then say: "I'm going to check the car for stowaways. If there are any other people in the car they can get out right now and buy a ticket with no penalty. But if they stay ...

Lemonade

(be wary of beverages offered by strangers. a while after we hit the road, it became apparent that my friend had been given something a bit more "altering" than lemonade, and I had to take over driving responsibilities.) That just appalls me. I can think of few things more inexcusable than drugging...

Re: Fair warning

It a stowaway is found, they get to purchase a ticket at current value. Usually they comply like good losers. If they bitch, the price of the ticket can go up...significantly. I thought the new policy was that if a stowaway is found, the whole car gets turned around and everyone goes home. Without ...

Troll Feeding

For God's sake, when are we going to stop feeding the LarryHarveysHat/WillSmallPenisRoger/etc/etc troll? After this success I expect him to post the following topics in quick succession: - Why does BM allow pagan child molesters free reign on the playa? - When will Larry Harvey put a stop to all tho...

And yeah, people do hitchhike in from all parts. My experience has been that a good number of them congregate in Gerlach and try to hitch/sneak in by soliciting rides with folks who stop at the Empire store. A good way to deter these people might also be to have a sign posted in or near the store s...

Counterfeit Ticket vs. Stowaway

I agree that a counterfeit ticket and a stowaway are very different situations. In the case of the first, I would have to give the holder the benefit of any doubt about whether they knew their ticket was counterfeit. And I don't think you could hold a whole car full of people responsible for one cou...

Fair warning

i think it's kinda lame to have rules than can very negatively affect peoples experience at the event (to the point of not having an experience at the event) without actually informing those people of it. I think that's a good idea. In fact, if I were working the gate I would get up to the car, ask...

Not even that much nudity

I think I mentioned this in a thread before, but there's a lot less nudity at BM than people who haven't been there seem to think. One day I did a random count and calculated about 20-25% of women went topless during the day (far fewer at night) and less than 10% of either sex went naked. That means...

All human activities have impact

Well, if his point is that BM impacts it's environment, he's right. For all the "leave no trace" ethos, you can't put 30,000 people in the desert without some sort of lasting effect. That said, so what? BM does far better than anyone else, and he hasn't made the case that increasing sand dunes is do...

No one is inclusive ALL the time.

I took the BM community to be one of inclusion, not exclusion and one of sharing and welcoming, non judgemental accepting deal, not an adults club/fraternity/sorority, which is what many of the theme camps, art cars, interactive installations etc have come to be, in my opinon. Look, nobody is inclu...
