Re: Gift Economy

In the next few days, I hope to get some special intelligence on 'sparkle pony' from an expert ... I'm no expert so I'll leave the etymology to others, but it appears the practical/real world application of the label around here is a hottie female at the Burn who says/does something someone doesn't...

That's great. We've got Farmers "off brand" RV insurance (Foremost Ins.) with most of the perks so I'll look into this... could save ~$80, which would buy 10 more bottles of Swami/Bonedaddy's Marg Mix. :)

Mosin, one thing to know about the UHaul trailers is that they are selective about what vehicles they will let tow their vehicles. I had an Explorer and they wouldn't rent to me. I had to go and get a buddies pick up to go get the trailer and then switch it over to my vehicle. Thanks for the tip. W...

No doubt their trucks are hit and miss. I myself spent a pissed-off, sweaty ride from Scottsdale to LA a few years ago moving some of the in-laws donated furniture back to SoCal one way in an absurdly fucked up and dangerous Uhaul rental and have had other lemons renting from them for local moves. B...

We rented one this year for 2 weeks and cost about $280. Gave it a good douche before return and had no problems. Sold. The thought of buying and storing one just for the burn was really unappealing. Renting makes much more sense for us. Did you spring for their damage insurance? If so, was that in...

Recent Uhaul trailer rental experiences?

Considering the cost of a new or quality used 5x8 landscape trailer and the fact that we would only use it one week per year, we're contemplating renting a Uhaul trailer for 2011. I'm wondering if anyone who has recently rented a Uhaul trailer for the burn (say, in the last 2-3 years, since their sp...

Temporary tattoos... fun and relatively cheap in bulk...like ~$80-100 for 1000 custom temp tattoos where you supply the image, logo, or text. A google search for temporary tattoos will provide many options.

We haven't had lighting theft, but there has been damage nonetheless. Probably just thoughtless, but it's hard to tell. Not sure how to make it more robust without making it super expensive. I'm also considering what a pain it would be to change out failed components with a high-security mount (suc...

Thanks all for the responses. It sounds like lighting theft is a rarity... thus a few spares (which I would bring anyway in case of mechanical failure) should cover us for the week. And that's a particularly good thing since el wire ain't cheap! So, what did you see that makes you think it was taken...

Lighting theft?

My wife and I are in the concept stage for a 2011 art contrubution, and are thinking of using el wire for a diffused ground effect under the objects, with an outer ring of solar leds for added safety/visibility. My main concern about the el wire is how often I will need to replace it (if at all) due...

This sort of thing makes for poor public relations with the U.N.
The 1996 Qana Massacre didn't help much either... or the repeat in 2006.

Not very original I'm sure, but after my first burn (2007) I explained it to the unaware/uninitiated (colleagues, family, and some friends abroad) as Mad Max meets the Erotic Exotic Ball, meets the Star Wars bar scene, at Woodstock, on the Moon.

I stopped supporting Cabelas after they endorsed aerial wolf hunting. That is not hunting. It's inhumane slaughter. Try Cheaper Than Dirt outa Texas. It's beyond my why anyone would want to bring a gun to Burning Man. Of course I'm just speculating, but I would guess there are Burners who bring a gun along every year for protection during their remote boondocking on the way to and from the event. If such hypothetical Burners are smart, they have...
