Re: Coming from UK need tent suggestions

Your first year is about survival. That is your packing list. I lived in a backpacking tent on a Thermarest in a sleeping bag with all my thermal layers on for several years. I brought all my food, water, outfits, and survivor stuff and stored it in the corner of my tiny tent less than 4 feet x 8 fe...

To the OP: it would be a lot easier to interview people in person for your project. And it would be a lot easier to pick a subculture local to you in LA for in person interviews. Talk to your prof. Doing online surveys as your only data source for a complex, varied, wacky, mystical, cultish subcultu...

Welcome to ePlaya! There are several costume camps, like Black Rock Boutique (Portland), Kostume Kult (NYC) and I'm sure more, may be open to private messages about what has worked and not worked in their experience. We had a costume depot one year in our 125-150 size camp, including footwear, jewel...

Every rule at BM is the result of the actions of a burner. A small percentage of the population are stupid, malevolent or mentally ill enough to cause real harm to others, including when they are temporarily chemically altered. As the event grows, those small percentages add up. The US value of "fre...

There is no reason for an ordinary person to have a military rifle. There was an article in Wired a few years ago on why which is not for the squeamish. Mental illness - health is a continuum. People can cycle into mental unhealth. People in mental ill health should not have access to a gun. The US ...

The NRA and outdoor brands like Camelbak & Camp Chef

Vista Brands is a conglomerate. They reportedly sell 40% of US ammunition and sell assault weapons. Their weapon division is estimated 75% of revenues. They own CamelBak and Camp Chef. As a weapon and ammunition supplier, they contribute to the NRA, and benefit from the NRA weapon industrial complex...

Re: Cordless hammer drill to drive rebar?

Once you have a demolition hammer with a ground rod driver, you will decide your home needs more ground rods. That's not a bad thing, because old grounds can loose effectiveness as plastic plumbing infiltrates your home. For safety and noise immunity, more grounds are always better. I think in our a...

1 ePlaya is a big proponent of lag screws

2 I think cordless combination hammers will not have enough energy. I would suggest >5 ft-lb energy. They often require >10 Amps @120V. So you are into a generator, which has many uses. You probably already know about ground rod driver bits.

Thou Shall Not Tailgate is a new independent film about Reverend Chuck Linville, Portland Cacaphony co-founder, BRC Post Office fixture (founder?) and burner since 1994. The event is always changing! Camps come and go, and you will find your own favorite camps in any year. I started after the shooting gallery era.
