2017 BxB & BxA up moderately

The Org has a new Afterburn format. Many of us like the detailed pre-2014 format and this is going back in that direction. https://journal.burningman.org/2017afterburn/ In 2016 the borg reported BxA at about 2400. They now sum in and out to 5800 in 2017, or about 2800 net round trips. BxB in 2017 is...

You can wear anything you like or even nothing. I'm a big proponent of outfits, and it took years to overcome my fear of costuming. The reason for costumes is 1 to make you feel good about yourself and 2 to start a conversations with people you meet. As other's have mentioned, add to an idea, modify...

Re: Danger is in Burning Man's Culture

I had a conversation with an officer on an art car who had resigned from secret service in Afghanistan. They related sneaking on other forces and cutting their tent ropes to mess with them. I would say that is danger. I experienced serious electrolyte depletion one year. Year 6 I think. I self refer...

Re: Captain's Logs by Capt. RON

I think Capt. RON did a good job on a quick read of the packing list post, did not look at the others. The packing list is essential to virgins and reused each year by veterans. It is not a vacation, it is not a festival. It is an extreme wilderness expedition. We say to virgins: read (to see if it ...

Re: Outside services for camps in 2018

Were flag-down pump services ever really a "sanctioned" service, or more some greasing of palms that gradually became commonplace and ignored? Black Rock City is in the middle of no where. The shit has to be hauled to a sewage treatment plant with capacity. How many miles? As some burners may recal...

We had help from dpw for our 65. Including the cover, but I do not believe dpw does heavy equipment for camps today. The Burningman Spark is the revived forum for camps to share resources including heavy equipment. You need to know your tubing weight with certainty to proceed. If you search for Mand...

Re: Outside services for camps in 2018

I would doubt Outside Services supports many BxB. BxA likely. I was familiar with the old list of service providers. It was container delivery, RV/trailer/mobile office delivery, generators, heavy equipment and water. RV delivery does have the advantage of having the RV owner fully bought into the d...

Re: Flat Top Shade Structure Guidance + Am I Missing Anything?

If you have the ratchet straps and a foot of rebar above the ground, you don't need to secure the upright conduits to the rebar. There is a good argument to fill the space between the rebar and the upright conduits so it doesn't bang around. There is also a good argument to have a small piece of woo...

Burning Man radically expands arts support tax deduction program

Many of you read the BM Journal. This is big news for artists, so worth repeating here. If you are raising money from your donors for an art project, you can use the Burning Man nonprofit umbrella so that the donor donations are tax deductible to the donors. Burning Man is opening applications from ...

The BMORG in my observation generally only makes slight adjustments but otherwise lets the event sort of evolve itself. They have s...

Hi welcome to ePlaya. It's your first year, you can only be a virgin once. I would strongly discourage a private RV share unless the owner has rented for the burn before. Even commercial RV shares can create big challenges over cleaning disputes. One of the special things about the playa is the dust...

The city moves just slightly each year. It does not move enough to change the Black Rock City prevailing winds you can find by an image search. Welcome to the burn and ePlaya. There are 2 use cases: tents and shade structures. For tents, 10 - 12 inch galvanized gutter or landscape nails are super. Home despot has them. You can set and remove them with a claw hammer, also a home despot item. Shade structures get into more serious anchors you...

Gathering up your riders outbound is more difficult than you can imagine. Let me give you an example. I was riding back with a friend I had known at least 2 years camped about half the city away. Search ePlaya for gwally and NW. There are some downhill curves inbound S of Eagleville which can cause a crash if you are speeding. There is open range in NV where you don't want to crash into a cow on the road. Don't swerve for jackrabbits.

To respond to Plug and Play -PnP- camp expansion the BMORG is capping outside services. Outside services deliver PnP RVs, generators and more. Consider starting a list of questions that aren't answered on the BM website. One specific question could be carpooling and gathering up your riders outgoing.
