Word in the city Sunday afternoon was that the gates would open early at LE's request because of concern that bad weather would cause a bunch of people to get stranded who otherwise could be settled in. But I never knew what really happened.
One of the camps near by was playing that "I'm on a mother fuckin' boat, bitch" song hahaha good times
If near 7:30 / B that was us, but even better is the guitar version "I'm on a motherfuckin bike" that was played live on BMIR.

Happily, my camera bit the dust when I entered the playa the Wednesday preceding. But here is my chance to make a simple request. Flickr has way too many pictures taken off-playa yet tagged "burningman", and bad snapshots, and similar time- and space-wasters. It would be nice if people edited their ...

Natural Selection my good friend. We cannot have every single person who enjoys a little extra stimulus and break a little free doing it all the time. Sure there will be a couple of gems cast into a deep pit and lost forever but for every good one lost, one and a half good ones are born. Yes, and b...

Great topic, more questions

My MV was invited on a sketch (#1006) but I only got it running this past weekend. Haven't even started arting it up yet. It is made of repurposed bicycle and motorized wheelchair parts and, if the seat I snagged last night works out, will take two passengers plus me. So my questions: If I'm cozily ...

Mo Money

I like the idea of charging more for RVs. Anything you can sleep, cook and shower in pays an extra C-note. Or three. I don't care how it's justified, if people are able to spend more to be comfy, then they are willing to spend more to be comfy. Churn the extra money back into low-income ticket subsi...

Can I download guidebook materials that are ...

... mailed with tickets? I bought mine at a walk-in and they had no materials, and I'd sorta like to do my ahead-of-time planning. Thanks.

Playa dust vs coefficient of friction?

I am thinking to build a vehicle motivated with belt drive. Playa dust will increase the friction, not decrease it, between belt and pulley, correct? Since this might be easier to implement than a chain drive in my application, I don't want to get slowed down by wet playa becoming a lubricant. (hm, ...

The splint fell off my finger while I was biking down 7:30 or a street nearby, and when I went back to cruise all around looking for it, no luck. Someone had demooped my finger splint in a hurry. Oh well, didn't hurt much anyway.

I too was a guard, ad hoc. As the women came around some thanked us. That was nice. A thousand times better was singing them in. The choir formed a sort of portal and sang with our arms outstretched. The joy on some women's faces, the emotion brought out by this unexpected serenade was so moving at ...

Kids in our camp (i.e. in their 20s) made a big deal someone was playing Daft Punk, let's all go, so I went too. I never thought the band was really there and thought it was hilarious when a Ranger had to go around the intersection with a bullhorn to clarify the obvious. It was fun, though, as the i...

Spent a couple hours in the infirmary while my wife was brought back from dehydration and saw a slow but steady parade of slide injuries, mostly chicks in short shorts who'd had a layer of skin roughed off their bums. We thought it comical.

Guess I'm a FYT

I got a straw cowboy hat at a thrift store for $1 and wore that to keep the sun off. I wandered around and made friendly and drank. I wore mismatched cast-offs and homemade necklaces. I have no idea but that Real Burners took me for a FYT. Oh the fuck well.

Cheezits H. Christ I just had to jump in. What contradiction of values? Guns are not allowed in. Drugs aren't either. People use drugs at risk of expulsion or arrest. I registered with eplaya just for this topic! My dream is to sing a capella at Burning Man. '08 was my first year of attendance. I SO wanted a group to sing with. But I don't like big choirs. I did barbershop a few years, and would really like to find a few compatible folks with whom we can arrange ...
