Re: RV Dump & Water Resupply?

http://www.burningman.com/preparation/event_survival/rvs.html Do I need to discuss the toilet situation? Even though we had a toilet, we would still alternate with the porta potties. You should only use one-ply RV toilet paper with your RV toilet - otherwise you may experience problems. You are wel...

Re: Does this shade structure need guy lines? Running riggi

The better tied down it is the less you will worry about chasing a monkeyhut across the playa at 4 in the morning.
Chasing the monkey will be the least of your problems after it breaks somebody's neck along the way.

Re: Does this shade structure need guy lines? Running riggi

I would plan to run a guy line off the top of the arch on each end and between the arched-spans over the tarp to prevent ballooning. Tarp is going to trap wind much more readily than shade material. Try to find tarp with grommets 18" apart. That distributes the forces much more effectively than the ...

Re: New route from LA?

As mentioned elsewhere, if you are a camp's mother ship, flat is better than foothills and foothills are better than mountain passes. If you are by yourself with nothing but stuff for yourself, have a ball and go whichever way yanks your crank!

Re: tent stakes

Pilot holes for rebar is not necessary. Two feet is excessive, but should hold just about anything you wish. Use flagging on your guy lines and have something made of foam or tennis balls to cover your stakes.

It would be a great way to endear a neighbor! For tighter radius of bend, use smaller diameter PVC. I honestly don't know what else to tell you. All my shade structures are a bit larger.

Re: Smaller shade structure for two person tent?

A two person tent can be anything from a 5'X7' foot print and only 4' high. Or it can be 8'X8' foot print and 7' high. Specifics about your two-person tent would be helpful. Generally, you want to create shade that is at least 1 foot above your tent. This creates an area for air to move and provide ...

Okay, now that we know what you are really up to, let's take your cooler for an example of required power supply. It consumes 45 watts. If you want to use this in your tent or van for cooling during the burn, you will have to run it continuously during the day in order for it to be effective cooling...

While in camp, I rarely wear anything. If I do, it is because it is early morning or late and it is too cold. When I leave camp during the day, I will at least tie one or two shamagh around my waste and one around my neck. My ass is literally covered when I sit on my bike or anywhere else. The other...

The average growth per year since the event has been on the playa is 13%. Given that last year it sold out at 52,500, the demand would be 13% higher this year. That puts the demand at about 60,000 for this year. It does not really matter whether the demand is multiple times more than what is availab...

Re: What battery do I need?

You could just invest in a 500 watt, or maybe less power inverter to plug into your cigarette lighter in the car. If you plan to run your car to charge a deep cell, you might as well run it to charge your car's battery instead. You can get a small power inverter which changes your DC power supply to...

Re: Damaged tent poles - pole repair set or replace altogeth

The above-mentioned repair kits do actually replace the broken sections and ferules. If necessary they have replacement cord also. So, instead of replacing the entire pole, you are able to replace only the part that is damaged. The sections come in lengths which, for my purposes, had to be trimmed a...

I have a feeling, if the entire event ceased to be organized, scheduled and contracted with all the other participating businesses and organizations, there would still be an enormous gathering at Black Rock Desert the week before Labor Day.

The shortest route is not necessarily the quickest route. i cannot speak to taking the 182 option, but that choice would not alleviate the steep grades North of Bishop and especially North of Lee Vining. If you are just traveling light, that would probably be an okay route. But most of us are overlo...
