Re: UHAUL - gps rumors? contract rumors?

I'm going with a local construction equipment rental company this year. They charge 30% less than Uhaul and they kinda expect their stuff to be returned dirty.

Re: UHAUL - gps rumors? contract rumors?

One of our camp mates got his van rental cancelled when he called to confirm about a month ago. Fortunately, he had also booked with Budget. But yes, his notification via email made mention of GPS tracking and the threat of retrieving the vehicle and leaving you without wheels. The notification expl...

Re: Solar charge controller and wind generator in parallel?

You will need a rectifier for the AC current of the wind turbine, which is basically an alternator much like the automotive unit. The rectified DC current must run through its own charge controller. This controller can then be connected to the same junction as the charge controller of the solar arra...

Re: Generator too Noisy? You might want to try this.

There seems to always be an issue with noisy gensets and mine is certainly noisy. But like you say, up in the 7kW neighborhood, it's not just the exhaust making racket. I've been able to plant mine near the Mother Ship and shade it under the solar array. This blocks the noise from two directions and...

Re: Why is it being outlawed to allow camps to work together

Our infrastructure doubled and our EAP's almost doubled. But there are many unknowns about our new setup that cannot be realized until we are on the playa.

And here I thought I was bad using a whip!

Re: Why is it being outlawed to allow camps to work together

It would be pure luxury to farm out some "muscle" on Monday. There's no padding in our EAP's and hopefully we will be up and running Monday. But I cannot say with any confidence we will have extra hands available by then.

The name and location of your camp might help to plan for the possibility!

Re: Why is it being outlawed to allow camps to work together

If I understand correctly, the problem is YOUR people and nothing to do with BMorg. If you cannot find sufficient numbers to commit to early access, how are you gonna run the camp after gate opens? As-far-as who is camping where after the gates open, EAP's are for the people essential to building yo...

This appears to be very similar to a Monkey Hut (http://www.chromatest.net/Lovemonkey/), which I used last year. It was pretty successful, but the weather was also very mild... According to this thread, though, the Monkey Hut is a terrible idea because it uses bungee balls and the like? I'm a bit c...

Re: Large Generator - Looking for Rental/Fueling advice

There's a choice we all have to deal with. Pay five times the price for a more efficient light bulb while losing whatever life is left in your current investment. Or maintain status quo and pay 10 times the price to fuel what you have. One man's waste is another man's savings.

I will grant that LED's are not cheap! I am surprised how robust they are and claim to last for almost a decade.

Re: SLA in parallel, charging

In parallel, your three batteries have a full potential of 384 watt-hours. You really do not want to go much beyond 45% discharge in order to: 1. Recharge them in a reasonable amount of time. 2. Prevent more than 50% discharge which decreases the life-span of your batteries by nearly half. The answe...

Re: Large Generator - Looking for Rental/Fueling advice

A 15k - 20kW generator is still a very large machine. We can easily run our entire camp, bar, lights, sound, toys, etc on a 7kW generator and still have enough for an RV's air conditioner if necessary! It only burns about 1/2 gallon per hour. BTW, most of the time, we run on solar/wind power. The ge...

Re: Does this shade structure need guy lines? Running riggi

The stretch of the bungee balls provide too much give. They are very handy for a variety of tasks, but you need attachments that are firm. The rope between the arches was meant to run parallel with the arches. A single rope across the top, side to side, from a stake on one side to a stake on the oth...
