Re: RV: To purchase or not ...

Hi Smilemore, After attending in 2002 and again in 2009, I came to the same realization as you. I needed those basic creature comforts (toilet & bed) so I could get the most out of the event. Especially if you have early entry and spend 10 to 12 days there. So in 2010, I bought a used travel trailer...

Thanks Ratty, I love how the background in that picture is totally empty. That's hard to do! The fish sure treated us well! My favorite art pieces were: The major art was awesome. Embrace, the Temple and the Man Pavillion were really well done. But that's too obvious... Burnerwood LA in the Souk. My...

Re: Anti M's Home for Wayward Art 2014

It's the little 2"x 6" painting in purples and pinks with a figure in what looks like a Yoga pose with hands pressed together over his/her head. I picked it out before realizing that it was painted by you. It is simple and wonderful (and no longer wayward).

Thank you!

It now has a permanent place in our lovely old travel trailer!

Thank you AntiM!

Skydivers View of 2014

I wanted to share this link from a member of my camp who made two skydives at this years BM. He was jumping to honor his best friend who had passed away a few months earlier. We were camped just across the street from the Burning Sky camp. He would walk across the street with his parachute and wings...

Re: Tips for Art Car Drivers/Leaders...

Thanks! The Fish car ran great up until Friday afternoon when the carburetor started getting clogged with all the dust and whatnot. But before that, we had it working for seven straight days and covered a lot of ground! To be honest, I was pretty much ready to walk and bike by Friday anyway. As you ...

Asshole...yeah maybe. A lot of hard work messed up by a careless person has a way of bringing out the douche in me.

I prefer to think that I parked it in a much more appropriate location with all the other bicycles. For safety reasons, of course!

Re: Lag screws vs everything else...

I converted my camp over to 14" Lag Bolts this year with incredible results. The bolts holding our shade structure with the heaviest loads never even budged. Once they are screwed in flush with the surface, they are the best playa option available.

Thanks Figjam, it was great meeting you!

From DrYes...
Left camp at 8 am on Sunday, was on pavement 45 mins later. Seeing reports of it only taking 2.5 hours to hit pavement mid-day, I wish I'd just slept in!
I must have been in the short line with you on the way out. Smooth sailing on Sunday morning around 7:30-8:00 am!

All of this discussion is making me feel a lot better! Figjam's advice has always been spot on!

I invested in 50 - 3/8" x 14" lag bolts and lengths of chain to get away from the rebar this year. I HATE REBAR! (Says the person with the scars to prove it!)

I admit, I was having second thoughts...

Re: Tips for Art Car Drivers/Leaders...

The side doors zip up and closes without any openings. The driver has to drop the bottom lip of the mouth, which creates a step used to enter the vehicle. It's a nice arrangement that allows us to control access really easily. Come and get swallowed by the fish! I thought about the same thing with t...

I managed to piece together two free POS bikes into one decent Playa bike! It rides really nice. I ended up only needing to buy two new tubes to get it up and running. :)

Thank you to Ratty for making the parts available and for the costume stuff. I can't wait to meet up with you during the event!

Make sure you bring sharpies so you can express yourself all over someone else's project! Radical self expression right!

It's only acceptable at the temple and if the artist expressly instructs you it is OK. Don't be an asshole!

Re: Memories From The Journey

It was Tuesday after the event last year. I had rolled into a dimly lit casino parking lot in the middle of the night and crawled in my trailer and crashed. When I woke up, I wandered into the restaurant for breakfast and sat at the counter. After coming to my senses and drinking some coffee, a guy ...
