i will preassemble the roof sections into 6 sections, not sure about the walls yet. Do you tape all the seams inside and out? or just the floor and the band where walls meet roof?

I am just building the basic plain yurt. The only difference i think i have is that i cut my door to swing like a regular door instead of up and out like a trap door. Oh and I also wrapped all exposed edges with the 6" bi tape, maybe i shouldv'e used the alum tape. I have 2 full rolls of the 6" tape...

i used a hot glue gun on my parasol. I live about 110 miles from BRC also in the desert. I've left my parasol in my car with the windows rolled up all day and the glue held. Did get a tiny bit soft but nothing came off...
I think hot glue is okay as long as you glue the shit out of it

moonrise,
for your umbrella maybe try fabric paint. I stencilled skull & cross bones on my umbrella (nylon) with fabric paint. I made sure to leave it open for about a day to let the paint really dry. I haven't had any paint flaking off and i have been opening it and closing it often.
