Re: Truck Driver with Class A license available
If this becomes more likely, I have my latest project "God of Hellfire" a dual burner flame effect turret on a non highway trailer, about a 6ft cube Located in Vancouver WA. Something like this would save dissassembly, packing, and reassembly both directions. Weight guess about 500 -800 pounds. I s...

Re: Art Car to borrow?
My MV walks slower then I do so it covers less ground, but I'm ok with that. Speed isn't the point.

Re: Time for a Happy Thread
Mmmmm! cake!! I might have to make it to woosday this week. My first test of the flame poofer for The Beast was around midnight on sunday. The neighbor called the police and when the first officer showed up he mentioned that I should operate it again so he could you know "make sure it's safe" and he...

@ Elliot
Nice machine, it looks like it would make a good MV as well if it doesn't take too much effort to keep it going. Are flywheels allowed?
I may have to check out the event this year.

Da vinci days has been mentioned to me before, It might happen some day when I have fewer projects on my plate. Currently all my projects are electric or engine powered.
I beleive the kinectic sculpture race is for human powered vehicles.

Re: 4x4 Low Range gearing?
You can always add an under drive gear box, Klune extreme v drives have a 4 to 1 reduction for smaller vehicles and a 2.72: 1 for larger vehicles, these planetary gearboxes work well on both 4wd and 2wd vehicles. They may be a little pricey but bolt to the back of an automatic and offer plenty of to...

Re: MV vs mobile sculpture?
Yes the Beast would be my creation. Another source of info might be Aluminipede they built a Theo Jensen based walking machine that was remote controlled for the playa in 2010. I beleive they had problems with the feet sinking into the playa and with a low step height it caused some binding. Pivotin...

Re: MV vs mobile sculpture?
@Shoeshine The Mondo Spider has a driver and can not take passengers, they register through the artery as mobile art. If the vehicle can carry passengers or is potentially dangerous do to size like The Walking Beast it should go through DMV. Also at least 4 ground walkers (spotters) are helpfull. Ho...

Re: Truck Driver with Class A license available
@mshaman, Thanks for the info, The machine is 10' 9" high x 8' 4" wide and 24 ' long. Oregon has a height law of 14' I have had it hauled on both step decks and low boys without needing over sized permits. I have a gooseneck trailer that I typically haul it to the burn on but it's getting really clo...

Re: Survey.... Lets see what the real numbers are
last i saw it there were 1,200,000 hits on that Suess video if only 3% of the people who saw it decided to go to burning man.. that could easily account for what appears, from the various anecdotes, to be the missing 65% of tickets available.
Burners account for a lot of veiws...

Re: Damage Control for 2012 ticket sales
@ Bounce530 You do realize that without virgins there wouldn't be a community. As everyone was a virgin at one point including Larry Harvey and without them the event would become stale with a bunch of old burners bickering about there entitlements.

Re: On the bright side :P
There are some that are considering this option, I guess we'll see how the rest of the ticket system works. I think it may take a few years before the positive energy returns, and there will always be some negative energy from this. Not to say that there won't be some positive energy this year but, ...

Re: Truck Driver with Class A license available
I'm curious what it would cost for a tractor and lowboy trailer round trip from Salem Or to the playa. If it is reasonable I may consider this option for hauling the The Walking Beast. It seems to keep gaining weight each year and limits what I can haul. I know that I'll be looking for a truck and d...

Thanks, The perforated aluminum is a good idea, it should let some air through without the greenhouse effect like polycarbonate. Polycarbonate also creates a lot of static electricity and attracts dust. Keep in mind that initial flexing will be a less than when the machine is broken in and parts sta...

I wouldn't worry too much about the aluminum corrosion, 6061 and 6063 have good resistance. I have been building and sailing land yatchts on the playa for 13 years with no corrosion problems. A light rinsing with a hose or compressed air after each trip seems to work well. Aluminum will turn grey af...
