I'm a habitual line-crosser.

But my honest answer is 'maybe next year?', since I've lost interest in the whole struggle for tickets this time. :D

Re: BLM Permit: What Does This Mean For Tickets?

The hilarious part is that most of the folks I know who don't have tickets at this point have already made other plans. I was kindly offered one at face price the other day, and had to turn it down because I'd already invested my BM funds for this year into doing something else.

Re: Raffle vs. "Buy it now"

Paying a fraction of the ticket price for a chance to attend something I wouldn't be able to otherwise doesn't feel like scalping. The gross revenue of a raffle isn't the same as an individual paying x amount, above and beyond face value, to participate. The procurement of the ticket is on more of ...

Re: Graph of tickets available vs minimum price on StubHub

I see I high correlation between the number of tickets in hand in the first graph and the one by JS, i.e. zero tickets in hand. You really have no idea how stubhub works, do you. They're an escrow service. The seller doesn't get paid until the ticket is delivered. So it doesn't actually matter that...

Re: Raffle vs. "Buy it now"

Yes, the raffle loophole --like all loopholes mistakenly written into law--only surfaced now as a problem because of scarcity. It seems a lot of pre-existing problems have revealed themselves since this ticket scarcity problem. Interesting conclusion. I'm not so sure I think it would/should be cons...

Re: Raffle vs. "Buy it now"

Actually, I wouldn't care so much about ticket lottery fund raisers if tickets weren't as scarce as they are now. They wouldn't be a problem at all if the people who were interested also had the option to just go buy their own ticket for face value. Scarcity's a bitch that way, no matter how it's g...

one thing that I still don't understand is how do they have tickets to the event itself (unless they were issued tickets as part of the 10K allocation). Pre-sale or flooding the lottery, same as anyone else. Easy as pie to simply put in a bunch of entries, then cap your number of trips with tickets...

When it comes down to it, the Burn's a vacation. I can't think of all that many relationships that'd be comfortable with 'I'm going on an awesome vacation, but you can't come, seeya sucker!' as a dynamic.

The factors that cause it haven't changed, so of course it does. It'll settle down some time around this time next year, assuming the ticketing process isn't once again trial-and-error testing.

Re: Identity based tickets.... Why not?

To start with $60 a day is pretty fleabag for a motel... Depending on location and season, of course. I don't know what that would buy on the broadway musical front. Or the march madness front. Or the Ice Capades. And the show's much better. And you can always look at the afterburns, for a start......

One rides out a Denial of Service Attack. It is impossible to prevent. Both the main Burning Man website and Eplaya have been getting attacked for over a day now. OK, I get that it's hard to detach from the technical details so lets update the premise. It was 3:1 oversubscribed and 40% first timers. So 120000 wanted to go, 48000 first timers and 72000 previous attendees. Getting rid of all the newbs would not have solved the problem. Banning all the ravers a...

Consider this.. I've sat in line and counted cars leaving BRC on Monday, the most was 16 to 18 vehicles a minute hitting 447. Granted the Black Rock playa is big and would hold 100's of thousands, but not the road... And that right there, as has been brought up in no less than a dozen threads this ...

I think I may have to change my mind and agree with the OP that scalpers got very few tickets from the lottery.
