Re: Newbie Order of Things

If having a camp shower is a priority for you, this would tip the scale to driving in to Burning Man rather than flying. Driving to the playa, you can bring all of the stuff you want/need. For my shower setup I have a black plastic concrete mixing tub to serve as the shower pan and evaporation devic...

Re: Newbie Order of Things

I agree with Jackass. Renting a cargo van or a small box truck would be easier than renting an RV. Since a lot of the truck rentals are for construction and dump runs, you probably wouldn't get nailed with a big deposit if you return the truck vacuumed and washed. The bike is essential as there is a...

Amen Chowski!
Burning Man is not for everyone. Some of my friends have attended only one time and will never go back. Others have attended 15 years in a row.
Memo to plyerHatersIntnl: If you do bring your SO, be aware that it will be a great test of your relationship.

If you arrive on Sunday, August 26th and Leave on Monday, September 3rd, the $1,200.00 ticket breaks down to about $6.25/hour. a great value in my opinion!

Re: New burner looking at 2018. Tons of questions.

While you didn't specifically ask for my opinions, you are getting them for free and they are worth twice the price. 1. For your first year on the playa, skip the camps. Park your RV, get out and explore. the natives are friendly. 2. Unless you arrive on Tuesday or later, you will be in a long, slow...

Re: Fewer people getting tickets?

Keep an eye on your local Craigslist about 2 weeks before the event. Last year in the Seattle Craigslist ticket section, tickets and vehicle passes started coming up for sale (at face value) days prior to the burn. It's obvious that some scalpers were selling tickets at inflated prices. The face val...

Re: Kodiak 10 x 10 Tent: Basic vs. Deluxe

So I pulled the trigger today and purchased a Kodiak 10' x 10' Deluxe, on sale at Cabela's. For all of you Kodiak campers out there, I have a few questions: 1. It the vestibule a worthwhile add-on? 2. Do you use the awning on the playa, or do you keep it rolled up? 3. If you extend the awning, do yo...

Re: laundry on the playa?

Getting back on track with the original subject, I saw an ad recently for a hand-powered, non-electric portable clothes washer: Lavario Portable Clothes Washer: www.lavariowasher.com
Someone like Figjam could probably come up with a d.i.y. version using a 5 gallon bucket and some tupperware.

Re: Burner clothes for those without perfect bodies

Tyvek painter's coveralls make a great "blank canvas" for playa wear. At less than $10.00 each from Home Depot, you can spay paint them, trim them, glue stuff on them, and become your own walking canvas. You could even go naked under them and cut some holes in appropriate (or inappropriate) location...

Kodiak 10 x 10 Tent: Basic vs. Deluxe

Kodiak Tents offers 3 versions of their 10 x 10 flex-bow tent: 1. 10' x 10' Basic (2 windows) $400.00 2. 10' x 10' Deluxe (4 windows + 2 cross vents) $550.00 3. 10' x 10' Deluxe VX (6 windows) $570.00 I'm camping solo and will likely have some kind of shade structure over the tent. For camping on th...

Re: Harbor Freight 10' x 20' Portable Car Canopy

Thanks for the feedback. I have had good luck with most of the stuff I have purchased so far at Harbor Freight, but the playa is the ultimate test for any tent or shelter. In the past I have camped at Burning Man with a tent trailer, but this year will be with a tent and a shade structure.

Harbor Freight 10' x 20' Portable Car Canopy

Looking for an easy to assemble shade structure. I checked out Costco and they currently don't have any of their carports available. Any thoughts on this Harbor Freight10' x 20' carport? The specs mention 1.27" steel tubing. I know that the biggest issue will be anchoring it to the playa so it doesn...

During the summer, Burning Man tickets and vehicle passes come up for sale on Craigslist. Usually 2 to 3 weeks before the event, you start to see more tickets and vehicle passes for sale. There are the obvious scalpers and scammers, but there also appear to be honest folks selling their tickets and ...

I'm glad I paid the freight for a $990.00 pre-sale ticket. Now I can skip the drama and uncertainty of the main sale. To paraphrase my favorite philosopher (Yogi Berra), Nobody goes to Burning Man any more- it's too crowded!

Re: When do PreSale $990 tickets sell out - 2018

During the past few years I had no luck of getting tickets & vehicle pass in the main sale, in spite of being in the queue promptly at high noon. For 2018 figured I would pay the extra $$$ for a $990.00 pre-sale ticket & vehicle pass. For this pre-sale, logged in promptly and had the purchase comple...

Atomic Bar 2016

Returning to the playa in 2016 with the Atomic Bar. Do we need a health department permit for serving drinks (Atomic Punch)? I understand that no health department permit is needed if we are serving canned beer.

End of the world?

Not too long ago there was a big outcry about ex BORG board member Jim T. and his ill-fated plug & play camp. There was plenty of bitching and moaning (mine included) on how the plug & play camps were going to destroy Burning Man as we know it. So what did you experience this year in BRC? More plug ...

Not losing interest, but there are other places I want to visit in my lifetime. Hope to return to the pla...

No longer wear a watch. I lost my watch on the Playa in 2009 and said hell with it. I have a clock on my phone, my computer, home, truck, and office. Why should I wear a watch? I also returned to creating art after my first burn in 2009.

Re: A Statement from Jim Tananbaum

After reading JT's carefully worded "non-apology", his statement could have been said in 9 words: "I didn't do it and I won't do it again". (attributed to Louis Armstrong) Reading JT's wordy statement twice (to make sure I wasn't missing something) , I came to the following conclusions: 1. He doesn'...
