Re: The Bar 2017 Edition

Seems to me that overall, eplaya, especially the Bar, has slowed down a bit in the past year or so, less vibrant somehow, and I think some of that may have to do with Fishy not being here to stir the fish bowl. I don't always agree with everything she says, though I find that I often do, and certain...

Re: Hexayurts: 1" vs 2" wall thickness

Unless I'm mistaken, I believe maladroit has a yurt with 2" thick walls. Perhaps we'll hear some firsthand feedback soon. I'm thinking, as Lucky has already stated, that a 2" yurt isn't really much cooler in practice, and is definitely a larger bundle to transport, which could be a real concern if y...

Re: Planning Arrival After The Gates Open 2016

In addition to FIGJAM's very cool aerial map, which is great fun to explore, here is an another map to look at, from last year. The purple areas are reserved camping. The white areas inside the city are open to all on a first come, first served basis, so to speak. So yes, determine an intersection t...

Re: Planning Arrival After The Gates Open 2016

Tuesday will likely have a somewhat shorter line, but you will have lost a day in the process. Not sure that's a good tradeoff. And thanks for choosing not to stop and linger in Gerlach, the way I see it, that area is already a serious traffic choke point. Regarding meeting up with campmates, I woul...

Re: How much food?

Yep, I second the notion that you shouldn't count on finding meals being gifted, as part of your prep. It may happen, but consider that to be an unexpected bonus unless pre-arranged. Instead, bring enough food, water and drinks with you to keep yourself in good shape for the duration, and a little m...

Re: Help: removing mold/mildew off canvas tent?

I think this is a good example of when it might be wise to test a small, less prominent portion of your tent surface first to see what affect your solution has on it, and its waterproof coating. Also, in addition to the good suggestions here, I'd call the company that makes the Kodiak for their inpu...

Argh! Tough decision for sure! Sorry to hear that you and the Bonerpillar won't be able to make it out to the desert this year A-Rock. I was hoping to meet you guys and hop aboard at some point.

Hopefully the Bonerpillar will roam the playa again next year!

Sorry to see that yg. I'm hoping that perhaps the gate is not damaged as bad as it might first appear, but the bridge... Ouch! The good news, if there is any, is that you have a good mind for handling large, heavy scale projects and repairs. This looks like a lot of work and expense though. Is that ...

Re: PVC based shade structure over 10X14 Kodiak tent advice

(and double posts happen, we've all done it, eplaya can sometimes be twitchy that way) That is to say, it is a fairly common occurrence. I'm guessing it may be related to the user inadvertently double-clicking when they hit 'Submit' in order to post, when only a single click is called for. Perhaps ...

Re: PVC based shade structure over 10X14 Kodiak tent advice

How to make the edges square? Honestly, will probably just use a box there to estimate it. Can do a quick diagonal corner measurement (a squared plus b squared = c squared) to make sure that we are close. Pythagoras was a cool dude and all, but in this case all that is necessary is to make sure tha...

Thanks for posting the pictures Kirk! Very cool! It seems like the water is more muddy now than in previous pictures I've seen, so maybe it is finally shallowing out, or perhaps it had just recently rained and stirred up the soup a bit. Re: Southern Burners/Theme Camps

I believe some burners from the Asheville area built a very cool, large fishing boat named Gypsy Queen and brought it to the playa a few years ago. Not sure what those folks are up to now. I never had the opportunity to meet them, but you can research it and perhaps learn more.
