I saw a lady from Green Tortoise squatting to piss right by the bus pakred by the edge of her camp. Literally, five feet from her own camp(!) and yes, JOTS was just on the other side of her camp.

Bizzaro.

I don't know what the solution is. The prevalence of cameras is probably my biggest single gripe with burning man (and I use a camera for a living!). And was it just me, or were there about ten times as many folks with cameras this year than last, even early in the week? I don't think banning camera...

I actually thought the art car situation was a lot better than it was last year... I'll give them a B. Little scooters are allowed without mods if they obey the speed limit. I also had the pleasure of camping with Ice Queen and she's as rad in person as she is running Arctica. She's a super sweetie ...

Here's the news flash: Running Burning Man costs money. Johnny on the Spot isn't giving us the porta poties. The BLM isn't giving us the land. So how do you want to pay for this? You know, I don't have any sympathy for the "people who live in their cars and don't have palm pilots to keep their lives...

The law is the law, but it's almost certainly better for Jiffy Lube & Burning Man for the LEOs to ask Jiffy Lube to move the sign than for them to go through the court process (which I suspect neither JL nor BMORG want to deal with, cost money, etc) and then seize it. Are the sherriff's overstepping...

It's kind of sad people are to yell "playa Nazi" or "Disneyfication" the moment they can't do whatever they want. I'm sympathetic, obviously, to people who put a lot of work in but can't bring all their toys to the playa. That's lame. On the other hand, I would be at all surprised if somebody at DMV...

But if a boxing match were scheduled for the center camp, protest would be zilcho. Got it. Well, you know, if people aren't selfish pricks about it, there's no reason why people who love Burning Man for the freedom and people who would rather not have sex rubbed in their faces can't get along. All ...

Two rules:

The pronunciation of the name should be obvious from reading it.

Don't make a normal name "hip" by spelling it funky.

Other than that, knock yourself out.

There are so many places at Burning Man where you could have sex in public, indulging your exhibitionistic trends, without really imposing on people who don't want to see it, that it strikes me as sort of rude to turn center camp into a place like that, too... There are plenty of camps on the Esplan...

Vinegar and lotion are your friends if you want to be able to walk comfortably and you're wearing stuff like that.

If we were on tribal land, we would (at least) be subject to tribal law enforcement. And as anyone who's been pulled over for stopping in tribal land without a permit on the way up can tell you, that's not neccesarily a good thing. It compeltely depends on the understanding you acheive with the trib...

Don't hide behind a camera. 99% of the people taking pictures at BM are (intentionally or not) using the lens as a wall to define their interaction with others. The biggest issue with unwanted drugs is almost certainly Rohipnol and similar drugs. I'd be shocked if there weren't a dozen cases -- if not more -- of this at BM every year. Did you miss the part where I excluded black africans from the discussion and talked about "execptions abound."

Would you like me to provide citations?

Re: Burning Man the safest spot on Earth?

A more appropriate conclusion from your data would be "about the same as San Francisco." That's where most burners are from anyway. Except it's not BRC for a week is as dangerous as SF for a year (actually, the math is more complicated because BRC's population is lower at the beginning of the week)...

Re: Feel the love

The survival guide tells bikes to have head lights. It tells bikes to do that so that you don’t run over a burner burning in the dark. Part of the Playa for me was to burn in the dark - I hid glow sticks as they were too bright - whipping them out (err who am I kidding - fumbled them out) when I he...

To compare a search by the gate staff to a search by the cops is really quite silly. There are all sorts of places we all voluntarily go where we submit to simple searches for specific contraband--we know this and we accept it as part of the price of admission.
