Was there a cow-print fur-covered stocks out front? It sure looks a lot like Smite Camp to me, and they were next door to the Black Rock Burner Hostel.

You could throw your own small scale festival but you're not likely to see the man, the fireworks, the temples, the art cars, the Colossus, Contessa, Miracle Grow, Soul in the Machine or the Mutaytor there. And you're not going to meet nearly as many people. Wow, I didn't realize there was a "must-...

i'm afriad to put fur on my machine as well; somehow even without all the extra strands of fur the thread seems to always get severely tangled down where the bobbin is. If you can, see if you can get a walking foot attachment for your machine. Jo-Ann's sells a generic one for any While brand sewing...

i could always get a pattern, but there's probably an easier way, right? Getting a pattern IS the easier way. I've always liked MCall's 4222 for beginners. But there are literally hundreds of commerical coat patterns on the market right now, fur coasts being the new yesterday's black and all. Keep ...

When my car (borrowed, btw) broke down as I turned off the highway onto the dirt road to the gate this year, I probably should have just taken that as a sign, sold my ticket right then and there, and just gone home. I've been out there 4 times now, and every time I've had that same feeling of the ki...

Ivy, your peacock tail is cool. Do you have a photo of the back? I'd like to see how you attached them. I think there might be a phto of the back on my website, but you can't really see much construction detail. Version 1.0 was created basically the same way as you might make a hand-fan--wooden rib...

Apparently. PJ used to wear a "Thanks for Not Hugging" shirt in order to dissuade that.

Try searching on "shisha" or "shisha emboidery." It's often used in bellydance costumes. I got an awesome book on the how-to of the technique at a thrift store in Santa Fe.

I truly believe the 3playa was a wonderful solution to a perceived problem.
It wasn't a solution, it was an alternative. Does Xara Dulzura fix problems that people percieve Burning Man suffers from?

Stuart, If you must know, I was the one who originally said it, not P. I also still find the eplaya difficult to follo...

There was an extensive discussion about distillation/purification/recycling of grey water in the previous incarnation of the eplaya. You can get to it in the archives section; try running a search on grey water. I just looked it up recently (in thelast month or so) so I know it's there.

Tony-- I'm not asking anyone to be original or come up with some stupendously different idea. I don't really believe there is such a thing as "original." Most everything has been done before. With a sound camp, you can be there when you want and leave when you want to go somewhere else. And when no one is around to spin, there won't be any music. But we will have rugs and mats and pillows galore for people to rest on This makes me a little sad. It appears the reasoning behind the sound ...

I'm not sure they're saying "newbies are the problem"--I think it's more like the common ignorance of newbies is the problem. Ignorance can't be helped--how do you know you don't know something until you know it? And they are batting around ideas as to how to eliminate that ignorance.
