They're heavier than shade cloth, but you can get truck mesh tarps at Harbor Freight for relatively cheap.... Sturdy as hell, and already grommeted. I finally fell victim to the Cult Of Aluminet, buying a swatch from the little bazaar that had opened up in Nixon.... With that sweet, lightweight stu...

Please to remember, part of the HCW is that you take a turn doing the washing.   Yes, oh YES! I can't really remember the first time I invaded anybody's privacy that way, but I know from teaching nursing students in the hospital that some folks really have trouble getting past the w...

I agree. Makes me sad, thinking wistful thoughts about time machines. Then coiling up in horror realizing I'd be raped, jailed, beaten or burned as a witch, at best dying of something perfectly curable with modern medicine. Exactly. I do not ever pine for "the good old days." Travel with Dr. Who, t...

When I see these posts it certainly makes me feel fortunate to camp where I do. Nice shower, runs electrically so you can get clean, gray water disposal, and playa mud free. This year we will replace our loufah (yes, we really had one) which got blown away in Saturday's windstorm. Maybe you guys ou...

For future reference: to avoid hem curling, use horsehair braid or flexible boning tape along the area you want to lay flat or to shape. Not made of real horses. In the notion section of any good fabric/craft shop. Horsehair braid! That's the other thing I couldn't remember! Oh well I didn't have 9...

Have'nt tried it, just remembered it it from ALL the reading I did in these threads before going for the first time. :) Washing someone in the classic Di Vinci pose seems like it would be easier than washing some one laying down. Yeah, especially the nooks and crannies. And dust should be easier to...

I stopped using a french press camping because I never had a good experience cleaning it. But... if you just make the one pot in the morning. let it dry. then cleaning is easier. As ygmir notes... how clean? Wipe it out with a paper towel, spray with garden sprayer etc. I use a moka pot, like this ...

Okay I have a question about coffee. How the heck do you get a french press clean enough to use again without running water? I was sure I'd have to settle for drip but lots of people on here talk like using a french press on the playa is no big deal. Are y'all carting out copious amounts of grey wat...

I contend that rebar is overkill for personal or family size tents, those in the 9 x 9 or 10 x 12 range. Few of those tents, if any, can withstand high winds. It's not how they're secured to the ground, altho important, but how strong the tent material is, and where the tent is positioned. Most of ...

I have to say that the snark here is fantastic and it saves my sanity on a regular basis.
