Re: Remembering MyLarry

I only got to really AntiM and MyLarry together in person as a chance encounter at the sideshows at the Carnival of Mirrors late on a Wednesday night during a relatively quiet time. Both were taking slow because of a foot injury AntiM was suffering. It was nice recognizing, and being recognized by, ...

Re: Out of control scams.

It seems to me like the Borg should have a year where they just have a blanket no transfers rule. If you buy a ticket you must go or lose the money you spent. Require ID That matches the name assigned to the ticket or no entry. Even if that were implemented, I think we'd still see a lot of people s...

Re: F-U bike theif @ Distrikt 8/30!!!

The first year my bike, along with those of two of my friends, were stolen from the same spot because we forgot to lock the bikes up. I still have the key from the lock that was still on the bike when it was stolen. Never again. Karma is what powerless people hope for only after they get exploited. ...

Just bring it in and don't use it. It's not like you could sneak around driving it anyway. Motorcycles don't require vehicle passes.

Re: Flash Photography at Night

It may be counter-intuitive, but flashes are best used for fill light during daytime photos, and left off during the night. I like to dial back my exposure compensation by -2 or so to make the camera capture the brightness level that my eyes are reading at night, and to reduce the exposure time need...

Re: rec'd route coming in from northeast

You'd probably be better off just making sure that you drive the speed limit and have all your plates and other stuff in order before driving through Nixon. You're looking at a +3hr detour going via the northern route. If you still want to take that route, according to Google Maps, you only save abo...

Re: Lag bolts in store

There are these, 10 of 3/8 x 14" for $70. But I think I got the last ones that would arrive before Burning Man. And still a ridiculous price. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003QZEJFS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Those are 3/4 x 14", 2x the diameter, which is why they're so expens...

Re: Lag bolts in store

They're not a common size to find at a brick and mortar hardware store. You might have more luck asking around in your local burner community to see if anyone has spares you could buy. That or buy them online (don't spend $173 for those above though, spend $70 for 14x3/8 ones at the normal FastenerS...

Re: Lag screws vs everything else...

Why get those specialized chunks of metal for more than the cost of the lag screws themselves? I bought a box of run-the-mill chain from a department store for like $10 for about 30ft of chain link or something. Then bought a generic bolt cutter at the same store for about $25. That's $35 (maybe les...

I don't know what to tell you man. Why don't you just test it out and see if it works? There are a lot of shade structure designs people have come up with, many have instructions or list the parts. At some point you're just going to have to sit down, choose one or two, and build them to see if they ...

The vibrations might be amplified through the body of the trailer unless it also has some decent mass. Honda 2ks aren't really that loud anyway; sound may not be a problem anyway.

Re: Where to set up camp? Solo virgin Burner

Please consult the online guide . Don't camp inside blue-flag marked areas; they're reserved. Nearly everywhere will have people camping near you, but the closer you are to the playa (i.e. the earlier in the alphabet the street you're on), the more populated the city will be, but also more occupied....

Hey Zach, I think this year is different. I was kind of confused by the city plan map for this year because it had a very light blue halo all over the city, rather than the blue bubbles surrounding major roads and such. It turns out they're not hard-zoning areas for placed camps in the same manner a...

I'd be more okay if they just got rid of the officially sanctioned mass transit like BxB, chartered flights (private or public), and Green Turtle. Then it would simply people to have to coordinate their own ride-shares, connections, or drive in. The mere existence of these official mass transit syst...

I hope you're not planning on just showing up with a bunch of parts that you've never actually assembled together before. Ideally, you'd get the parts immediately set up your shade structure at least once so you know that you at least have all the parts, have time to buy any parts you forgot and ask...
