Re: New Blog - Ticket Update: Rebuilding Black Rock City 201

Wait - so the couples that did the right thing and only registered once for two tickets, will only be able to buy one ticket through STEP?! This is the case of some of my friends. I am so sad. BMorg had the opportunity to do the right thing and now they have screwed it up even more for the "little ...

Re: Who here actually has an extra ticket?

Howdy Herring Love the name! yes! Yeah lets hope - to be honest, the actual figure for many burners I'm sure is in the $1000s. People who haven't been to BRC or don't have close friends have probably not figured this out yet. Yeah, not this OR the commitment required to comfortably (if there is suc...

Re: Do the math: over 50% of tickets went to scalpers

Well it may just be that all the DJ said was that it was sold out last year and that the ticket lottery was happening And Higg's dad's neighbors just decided to become amateur scalpers and enter the lottery based on that information with no encouragement from the DJ. But if that kind of thing was in...

That really smacks of urban legend... Not that I'm an expert... Heh, yeah, I know, "Random eplayan's dad's neighbors heard _____" is not enough to make me take action. Maybe all the DJ said was that tickets were sold out last year and that the ticket lottery was happening, and it occurred to the ne...

Re: The best rumors you have heard about Burning Man this ye

Can anyone in Reno verify this rumor? In the ticket tread, someone's dad heard from his neighbors in Reno that they should all enter the ticket lottery with no intention of going and sell any tickets they get for profit, and said that they heard about doing that from a local radio station. Is this t...

My friends' dad who lives in Reno said his neighbors were telling him to enter the lottery so he could make money selling the tickets...said they heard about it on a local radio station . This bit really upsets me. I've worked in radio and scalpers ruin our promotional events. It hurts listeners wh...

50,000+ people damage the road, kick up dust and create dunes where there would be none naturally and compromise the hot springs. Being uncivil to the BLM is not going to help anything.

Re: NY Times chimes in on tickets - uggggggg

I dunno, if casual never-beens who don't post on eplaya or tribenet, and just entered the lottery on a whim, hear that Burning Man will suck this year maybe they actually will be more likely to sell their tickets. So the more news outlets telling them that, the better, I say. And better yet, it make...

Re: Know best formula for Glowing Paper Mache?

Alternatively, you could use yarn or string instead of paper. Just dip your yarn or string into your water + flour/glue mixture and wrap it around your form, leaving space in between for light to come through. It's a pretty neat effect.

Re: Who here actually has an extra ticket?

I really do think the "extra" tickets will start popping up in the summer when the reality of spending $100s on food and equipment and getting a week+ off work to travel to the desert and back sinks in and those that bought tickets "just in case" will start selling. Now, whether they sell through st...

Re: I Suppose That This is a Better Place...

I think what it really comes down to is planning. I'm in emergency services. If I can't go to the burn, it may be bad for the city, but I'm sure other emergency service burners can pick up the slack. It doesn't affect anything I do in the default world, aside from keeping my certifications and lisce...

Re: Interesting read--open sale may be cancelled.

I'm not a lawyer, but I'm guessing the BM corporation could get itself into some serious legal trouble if they distributed the remaining tickets to the theme camps and art installations. The problem is that BM as well as the participants are bound to the agreement that we "signed" when we signed up...

Re: Documentary About Burning Man

The problem is that documentation is not participation.

Why not use your skills to rig up a sweet video projection system, with live or (original) prerecorded footage? Make it big and bright and interactive and make it something we can all enjoy on the playa, an actual artistic contribution.

I'll have to answer that question with a question. Do you know of a regional(or any place other than the playa) where you can construct a 20 foot tall fire breathing duck that can be admired by people in unusual costumes(or none at all) and then go to a bar someone else made and have a shot of jack...

Thanks for posting this. My camping (and life) partner can be something of a fuddy-duddy when it comes to dressing up. They also get early arrival passes and passes to drive their cars on-playa to/from their art. In short, artists receive any perk available at burning man. Not all artists obviousl...

I believe a large proportion of newbies entered the lottery "just in case" and probably won't end up going. I think the population will naturally level out. There's only so many people who can handle and afford a week-long trip in the middle of nowhere, in such a harsh environment with radical self-reliance and no guarenteed entertainment. I realize the population growth trend graph is a good argument aga...

I don't think it's a bad idea. Theme camps and large projects need their dues and committed members early. I as a single camper/ artist have no worries about finding a single ticket in the secondary market later if I decide to go, but I have the luxury of being tentative because my plans only affect...

What do you drink water out of, Zeke? I got a 2 pack of no-spill sippy cups with open handles last year, but didn't realize until I tried them out that "no spill" means "no drink" unless you have a suction power I'm not capable of producing. That and the open handles meant I couldn't just clip it on...

Small scale event means small scale art, small scale music.

Still really fun, but it's like tailgating without actually going to the big game.
