Re: Central Texas: Burning Flipside Q & A

New year, time for a bump! For transport, I didn't feel a bike was necessary in the least. People had them, and we'll probably bring ours this year, but I don't think we ever had a 45+ walk anywhere, but I can't swear to that as I wasn't exactly timing myself. I was camping with a negative nelly and...

Re: Stop Burning Man's Culture of Bicycle Thievery!!!

The bike thing is a trip. They are scarce enough to be stolen but endless amounts are left on the playa each year. Does not compute ... as most doucehbaggery doesn't but I digress (or do I). The math makes perfect sense. A minority of moochers get tired of walking, spot a bike near the potties, thi...

Re: Seeking a Large White Parachute

Even if your parachute doesn't destroy itself and everything it's attached to when it gets picked up by the wind (it will, even with slits or holes) it won't ever drape flat enough or still enough for projected art. For your sanity and safety use the alternatives suggested.

Re: What are you going to sleep on in your tent?

I have no luck with air mattresses, so this year we're bringing this: http://i40.tinypic.com/11kxpxk.jpg Click for description It's made of foam so it weighs maybe 10 lbs, folds into a couch and fits easily in the bed of my truck with all the other gear. I got it second hand from a girl moving out o...

Re: Romantic Relationship issues with 2012 Burn

It really sounds like you don't respect her at all. Dismissing her as a sparkle pony, assuming she'll be taken advantage of by her veteran burner campmates, not even inviting her to the burn with you, this is not how you treat a partner in an adult relationship. When the relationship falls apart, it...

Re: A FIX: Require registration for all tickets won in lotte

Why do you only need to make the lower tier registered tickets? Because presale (at the higher price) went off without a hitch. Because burners know not to buy tickets over the top tier price, so scalpers and flakes can't make a profit selling their bottom tier $240 ticket for top tier $490 price. ...

Re: A FIX: Require registration for all tickets won in lotte

I said it elsewhere, but again, you only need to make lower tier tickets registered with names and non trabsferable. If you want to gift tickets, if you need extra tickets for your camp, if you don't like the idea of bringing your ID, buy the top tier no-name no-registry tickets. Edit: but more impo...

Re: The non-repeat, non-negative lottery feedback thread.

Combine the eliminating tiers idea with the non-transferrable names printed on tickets idea. Yes, you can purchase a $240 ticket, but you better be sure as hell you can make it because that ticket can't be transferred to any other burner. Make that true for every tier but the highest. You would like...

Tell Me About Registration and Early Entry?

So now that the art registration questionnaire is up I've got a few questions. I'm planning on having the main components of my piece finished in May, so I'm waiting to complete the questionnaire until then. Are all artists with installations on the open playa granted early access? Do all artists ac...

Tell Me About Recycling?

I though I read about recycling at center camp, but now I can't find it. Am I mistaken, or is it true that someone or some crew will accept metal cans for recycling? I think I read that they donate the proceeds to local schools or something? Anyway, I know it's a bit early to be planning my meals, b...

So net or mesh material is okay for a shade structure? So many photos I've seen people use tarps to cover monkey huts or they use solid carports. I'm considering using a vinyl mesh to cover my shade structure (something like this: http://www.sailrite.com/Phifertex-Mesh-Garden-Green-DC3-54) which would allow air to pass through but still offer as much shade as your usual breathable patio parasol. Seems like all these tarps just aren't good in ...
