Sorry, but there is deliberate theft, and people going through rvs, etc. Are they breaking RV locks? My trailer is the most important thing that I am bringing along. It is a 1963 airstream that was left to me 2 years ago when my little brother died. He lived in Florida and always wanted to bring it...

Curious about theft. Solar system security.

My husband and I have our tickets- this year will be our first burn, and we are happily preparing all that we will need for the days on the road and week on the playa. One thing that I am curious about is how worried we need to be about theft. I know that it happens, but is it common in BRC? I live ...

So, Elkay, when will be your year? Do you know, or will it jump out on you one day? Our tickets are on the fridge. Make a note to drop by my Home for Wayward Art and adopt a piece of art. This year promises some interesting selections. Will do- if we make it. @Elkay, I personally do not think his w...

Our tickets are on the fridge. In preparation we have purchased a truck, a north pole party shade and several little items that are piling up. I hope we make it this year as I am ready.

Elkay, I disagree. OK. :-) I have no knowledge of burning man other than what I have gained from reading here. Just trying to converse about an area where I do have some credentials. Of course the child will be fine, but so will the mother be if she puts it off for a year. Moving on though, this is...

....this will be traumatic for your son, who will think you have died. Not true, babies don't understand death, only absence. by "died" I meant that he will think that she is never coming back. A momma who enriches herself enriches the life of her child by extension. There are many ways to enrich a...

Nineteen months is too young understand when you explain where you are going to be. Regardless of how great the sitters are, this will be traumatic for your son, who will think you have died.

... Now you have to work on creative writing to get approval. I wouldn't say you need it so you can attend the Burning Man festival. Maybe a family wedding in Europe or an ill cousin in Texas. Best of luck with this process. I was wondering about that. I figure that going to a festival is not a goo...

(Just wondering if having parents at burning man bestows braggin' rights.) Ha! You would think so, but I think she sees it more like the boogers that tamarakay mentioned. I bet that she will never tell anyone. I guess what I was wondering about was if she might find out that people in school want t...

Wow! when I graduated high school, being the baby of the family, the word I got was, "Son, Pop is retiring and we are moving to California. YOU are not invited!" Yeah- me too, but my parents quit when I was 14. But,,,,, and this is a big BUT! If I had bought the tickets and made the plans, and THEN...

Not the cheapest solution, but it gets you to the playa a day earlier and avoids wear and tear on you and your vehicle... Fly from Duluth to Reno, rent a car, go to the burn, fly back to Duluth and drive home. Good thinking, but we can't fly. The first idea to come to burning man started a few year...

Thanks all! This sunny morning looks so much better than yesterday's. We figure out a way to burning man. Tomorrow morning I will be able to talk to someone at UM housing to see if she can move in early. My daughter thinks that moving in early might give her a leg up finding a job. And one of my dea...

But plenty of people started off only going for a day or two. In fact, the early playa burns were three-day weekends.[/quote]So, if we show up late, is there still space available?

You know, if one of my kids did that to me, I would be angry. I'm not accusing anybody of anything, but, some kids have a hard time separating. And it's okay for them to grow at their own pace, but, not okay for them to try to influence others in hidden ways. And just think, if she is choosing a sc...

You only get one shot at dropping a kid off to college for a first semester. I agree. There is no way that I would leave her floundering. She is my last to fly off, and I know how important it is. Sadly, i am thinking that we will never make it to burning man. (and we were so close this time too!)

Tell the University of Minnesota your going to Burning Man. Maybe they can accommodate. Its definitely worth it! Being your first year, one day will do just as much as the whole week...you may miss a bit, but you will be there! And....you'll understand, once you arrive! There is an idea. Maybe they...

She thinks that we are silly to go to burning man. It is her first year of college- so she really will need help. And part of our rite of passage was to do that part right. Set up her bed, take her to costco to stock up. Cry in the hallway. The original plan had us leaving her in Iowa and taking sev...

Coming late in the week, bad idea or terrible idea?

My husband and I purchased tickets for our first burning man and have been busy preparing and getting the things that we will need.... We figure that the Rite of Passage theme is perfect, as we would be dropping our daughter off at college, and coming to the playa to transition to our empty nest. (M...

Can't wait to meet you all.

ready for rites of passage

Hello ePlaya, My name is Lori and I will be a first timer this year with my husband Rick. We are thrilled about the theme as we will be experiencing our own rite of passage. Planning to drop our youngest daughter off at college on the way, and will be celebrating our empty nest. (We love being paren...
