Re: Let's nerd out about Blacklights

I plan to take this beast over to a friends house who has a few fluorescent tubes installed in his party room, along with quite a bit of glowing decor, just to get a good compare against T8 tubes. I'm looking forward to hearing your comparison of these two options because I'm thinking either a bunc...

Re: Let's nerd out about Blacklights

Aright, well if a pair of 18W LED blacklights aren't impressive enough, I got my eyeball irradiating 400w fixture most of the way together last night: http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k281/vermeuliscious/20150608_204554_zps4s7jsrc4.jpg It still needs a screen or something to keep fingers from accid...

Re: 6V Dome - LARGE Dome Covers (Patterns and Calculators)

Some 24' 5/8 dome covers fabricated in China of vinyl for our camp were about 500# each so melodiousdirge might do a weigh in to check his. 500#! Mine doesn't weigh that much. It may weigh more than 100# as I said earlier but I don't think by too much. I can heave it around myself when it's rolled ...

Re: 6V Dome - LARGE Dome Covers (Patterns and Calculators)

MY dome isn't nearly as large as yours, at only 24 feet, but I found similar challenges finding info on making a cover - everyone's got instructions on making the damn struts and nobody seems to have much advice on covers. What I did was to use recycled billboard vinyl, with the unprinted (white) si...

Re: Burning Man just got more expensive

We can call BM a "religion", and our tickets are "donations for the church" and BM itself is just a "retreat" for the "faithful". Bingo. Done. I know you're joking but this actually isn't really any more insane than some of America's other tax free religions. In fact it's considerably more sane tha...

Re: Work In Progress 2015

@melodiousdirge, if the wind from the fire were strong enough, then you wouldn't need the fans in the first place? I was reading it as being that the fire tornado art pieces you see are pretty fucking cool, what do you think it would take to scale that up to a size so that the burning of the man wa...

Re: Work In Progress 2015

ridiculous power requirement Clearly this is an idea that belongs squarely in the hypothetical universe, but I actually think you could take advantage of the thermal winds from the fire to generate the swirling without the use of fans. A lot of fire vortex devices don't actually use fans, they just...

Yeah....but that's not enough . Well in that case... the big problem would be containing the vortex from moving around despite the prevailing wind. Even if you created a giant rotating fire devil I think it would peel off like the naturally forming ones already do... so instead of fans, an enormous...

Got the 18w floods installed on my trailer. They still produce a bit of blue light due to the conformal coating, but I'm shrugging this off as a whatever at this point. This way I'll be able to navigate around inside my dome a little better with the blacklights on, due to the visible light present. ...

I'm not sure about declared value on something like a ticket... *scratches chin* there's probably some legalese to interpret there.

Anyway thank you for your thoughts so far; hopefully I hear back from burner express support before they start selling tickets.

this may be a situation where you bite the bullet & ship the ticket either USPS 2-day (which is relatively cheap for an envelope, and I've never had it go wrong for me) or FedEx overnight (which is very much not cheap at all). Thanks Eric; Priority shipment is sort of my less preferred, but likely ...

That's HUGE! Now if you had a couple of those, a mirror, & a lens, you could make a UV spotlight & give the man a nice tan. Actually, that light scares me a little. You can look up the line spectrum for any element, including mercury. Glass and whatever coatings they use will reduce some. The Hg vapor emits mostly short wave light - I don't know what the spectrum is, but the lamp is the same dark purple that any other blacklight is, I guess I should look and make sure it filters out the UVA and UVB. After playing with it last night my eyeballs definitely felt like they'd been irradia...
