Re: Top Asshats of 2016

I would also like to add a personal Fuck you to the two assholes who decided to give our camp two red spots after we left. I personally mooped both those areas Tuesday morning and they were squeaky clean when we left at 12:45 P.M. Tuesday. Since the only thing inbound from our camp was placed theme...

Re: The 747

I didn't get out much this year, but as a stained glass artist the Space Whale was really impressive. They used for the most part true hand made art glass, not that cheap low contrast shit you see in mass produced pieces. It was beautiful at night when illuminated, I never got a look in daytime but ...

Re: Top Asshats of 2016

Our personal top asshat was the guy from LA with a rental trailer brought in by a vendor, placed right on the Hushville line with the generator muffler pointed straight into our camp. He may or may not have tried not to run it a lot, and as it was a cool year, perhaps he did not, but he wasn't inte...

Re: Top Asshats of 2016

Most of my complaints are centered around street traffic. This was my first time camping street side since 2012 and first time ever on a radial street, but there seemed to be way more traffic in the form of non mutated golf carts than I've ever seen before. I'm not referring to mobility flagged cart...

Re: Finding Home

I have driven it but never again. It's 2700 miles and takes about 4 days unless you want to spend massive amounts of time in the car daily. Going is fairly fun - but sitting in the car day after day post event I find hellish to say the least. I now fly out and keep my big stuff in a storage locker i...

Re: Future virgin burner 2017

Welcome.

I would like to second what Token said.

The burn can be a strain on even strong relationships and since you used the term convinced it would probably be a very good idea to hash this all out before you are on the playa and one (or both) of you is having a meltdown.

Re: our second burn

I get this 100% although I doubt taking a year off will change anything. Every year is different and for lack of a better term has a different "vibe" to me. Some years I enjoy more, some less. It is hard to pin down exactly why but here are some of my thoughts on the subject. Camp - I have been camp...

Re: How was your volunteer job this year?

As usual I enjoyed my Greeter shift immensely - I would do more but never have any voice left after one.

And of course hosting the Eplaya M&G although that is not an official volunteer shift.

After the frantic "I must join a theme camp" rush of posts pre burn this year, I must say I find your radical self reliance to be a refreshing change.

Folks this is how you do it.

Re: Water-based-art on Playa?

This sounds really interesting and I assume you have made him aware of not being able to use it to promote his business. The main draw back I can see is that the combination of playa dust and water will probably gunk up the pumps, jets, plumbing, etc... I cannot think of any water installations off ...

Re: My gift? Is it allowed

Considering that many burners consider it uncouth to even ask what folks do for a living and some to even discuss the default world at a burn - I am not sure this would be well received. As someone mentioned above - there are a number of camps that offer seminar space that might be interested though...

Re: Advice from veteran burners please?

Use the standard Paypal purchase function - DO NOT use the Paypal gift function (transfer money to friends / family or whatever it is called) because you have zero recourse with this option. One common scam technique is to request you send it as a gift to "save them the percentage Paypal takes on sa...

I agree that you need to bring a ratchet or breaker bar as a backup in case of battery failure.

Re: Securing Shade Structure, Among Other Questions

I second that you will not be able to candy cane rebar with pvc pipe. It can be done without heat but takes a steel pipe and a way to hold it securely while bending - such as along the base of a building foundation. The 2.5 pound hammer should be fine. For my exposed rebar I simple place an inexpens...
