Re: So what are you doing for the Meet & Greet in 2012?

I'm so sad I can't make it this year :( I really wanted to come and meet all you lovely folks but I'm on the perimeter team for our CORE project, and committed to that from 4pm onwards. Hope everyone has a smashing time!

Empty gatorade bottle = spittoon. One bottle should last the week as long as you don't use giant amounts of rinse water. Pack it out with your garbage at the end.

Re: Playa Dreams & Nightmares

In my dreams of burning man, the desert doesn't exist. Black Rock City has paved roads, trees, brick buildings and hills. Sometimes people live in apartments and shacks. Sometimes we set up our tents inside a massive building. The art and theme camps I see are sometimes things that would be impossib...

Re: One Item for BM a Day

Accomplished this past week: Bought good lip balm, the stuff I don't ever need at home and desperately wanted on the playa last year. Lip Smackers didn't cut it, oh hell no. Bought some dry shampoo to try out. Finished sewing lights into the collar of my playa coat. Decided the cuffs need lights too...

I like Tartex: http://www.tartex.com/product-range/organic-vegetarian-spreads/pastries.html

I haven't tried a lot of the flavours, but the Champignon one is yummy. I don't care for the Herbs one as much.

Declining a STEP ticket

I can't seem to find the answer to this question anywhere - I received a STEP email but I already have my ticket. Is there any way of declining it to expedite the process, or do I just have to wait and let it expire? Given that STEP is closing soon, it would suck just to sit on it for several days w...

One of our campmates had them last year and loved them. If you wear them all the time already I think you will probably find them great.

Re: Underwear

Don't bring brand-new underwear! Test it first. Ride your bike in it. Last year I bought a bunch of cute, comfy-looking booty short type underpants to wear. When I got to the playa I realized that comfy-LOOKING does not necessarily equal comfy-FEELING. :(

Re: Note to newbies: Start to prepare NOW

Read the survival guide. Read it again in a few days. Read threads on eplaya for hours and hours. If you don't ride a bike regularly, start doing so now. Go for long walks, too. If your tent and shade are new, practice putting them up and taking them down a few times. If they are old, do it at least...

Re: Start with what you have. It's easier and cheaper.

tahiti_treat, I just stumbled on poly dyes at an arts supply store. I used Jaquard brand but there are other brands, too. A packet costs 3 bucks, and I mixed the powder dye in water in a small glass jar, and then poured some of it into the pot I was using to dye the clothes. You can play around wit...

I love that cloak, Ratty, very regal!

Playafifi, your dyed items look great. What kind of dye did you use? I've had varying success with dyeing thrift store lingerie.

I had 2 last year - an insulated Bubba mug that I used in camp and this little guy for on-the-go: AAAAC0rvWosAAAAAAbx5NQ.jpg It's suppose to be a dry snack lunch box container. I had intended to use the larger Bubba as my main mug and just had this one as a spare, but I found I preferred toting and ...

Scrubbed the playa dust out of the bike gears. It runs much smoother now. Took another 7km ride. May take another this evening.

Re: One Item for BM a Day

Love those trikes! I wish I could have one but I don't think it would fit on the bike rack... even if I could find a cheap one! I did get me some dry bike lube, then threw my back out so I couldn't do the bike tune-up I had planned. So instead I finished my fleece cloak. I'm terribly happy with it :...

Re: Camp and self lighting for beginners

I had all sort of self-lighting options last year, including EL wire, xmas light type things, and LED glow sticks, but my favourite was my trusty headlamp. I have one that has a "red" setting so I left it on that and let it hang around my neck. It provided plenty of illumination (especiall...

Re: How to make a Mini Top Hat!

Nice tutorial! I've made a few of these but just used a circle of cardboard for the brim. I like the idea of using wire better as it creates a curvier shape. If I were to make one for the playa I'd make non-moopy "feathers" out of felt or suede. Or maybe other shapes - hearts or stars woul...

As someone who is holding three tickets, I find "scrap the whole thing" to be a terrible idea. I'd imagine anyone holding tickets just now would object strenuously to such a plan. I do feel for those who are ticketless, but really? Hand me a prize then rip it away because there isn't enou...

Hoooooly crap.

I can definitely relate to the whole "falling back into the victim mentality" thing. I had an ex-boyfriend similar to the one you describe, and though it's been years I find myself reacting the way you did when someone's behaviour reminds me of his. It's terrifying. *hugs*

Anyway, I am hurt and disappointed. I thought we shared a connection on the playa that I had hoped would carry over into the default world.
