Re: Mistakes were made and accidents happened.

I never make structural mistakes. Every year I've gone, my structures have always survived and been the most tied, braced, solid structures in any camp I'm with. Now, granted, I've never experienced a real playa storm, save for 5 minutes in 2013 post event when the playa went wacky for a moment befo...

I think it was Wednesday night, but I might be wrong - an RV exploded.

Re: Sound Policies

I'm a well adjusted music-lover who spends a good amount of time building an awesome camp and volunteering around the city. I stand firmly on the side of music-is-good-for-burning-man, DJ'd or live. I make it a point to go out dancing all night at least once. I was ambivalent-but-hopeful about the D...

Re: Weird year.

Honestly - the airport is really fucking cool. It's certain people that use the airport that are not very cool. I would recommend riding out there and spending an hour or so at the bar (I think there is one, I never confirmed it though but I did hear people talking about it...) to get a feel for why...

Re: cooling your tent or van

Only really needed it pre-event, otherwise it was actually cold enough to sleep under the carport. As usual, it worked way too well. I needed more blankets in my tent because I was too damn cold when the cooler was running. The magical WTF-cooler of pure voodoo continues to be the best investment I'...

Weird year.

I think this is the first time I've ever come back from Black Rock City and considered - maybe I shouldn't come back next year. It wasn't the art - all of that was fantastic. Wow - the soup kitchen in deep playa. I finally found the BIjou. I somehow missed the observatory, again, but oh well. Open p...

Live from the playa - Hard thin crust 9 side Fluffy as fuck on 3 side 6 is a mix open is pretty duney here and there with large swaths of beautiful flatness, but again, thin crust deep playa is currently a fucking mess, but randomly has beautiful spots of flatness gate road is currently in good cond...

Re: Elliot's Bicycle Service & Piano Bar

I don't necessarily expect it to - but at this point, I've done everything my relatively limited knowledge can, and five years of playa has certainly done something funky to it that a healthy dose of Sheldon Brown can't find. Tightened things here, loosened things there, replaced the tubes and de-in...

My playa bike turns five this year, so surely, I'll be visiting you guys at some point in the week.. I've done all I can to keep it alive, but I'm sure there's something I can't figure out that's going to make it implode on me.

Whoops, it's early in the morning and the office is out of coffee (SERIOUSLY? WHAT THE FUCK!), so.. you're right, the 4 person is 8x9. I am looking for the 4 person 8x9, in order to fit it underneath my carport. Thank you for the offer, VultureChow, but the magical 8x9 is the one I am looking for! T...

No Cabela's retail outlets In California as far as I can tell... and I don't see the 4 person on there, just the 6 person.

Looks like I might have waited too long! Thank you, though.

Kodiak Tents?

I've decided to jump on purchasing a Kodiak tent after using one last year - it was a glorious experience. However, it is now clear that I have waited too late and it appears they are out of stock all over the place. Both of the Sportsmen's Warehouses in the Sacramento area are out, Amazon is out, t...

Re: Playa Conditions for 2015

Things have dried out a bit leaving a really well-packed and flat playa. The apocalyptic conditions of a few weeks ago have been overwritten with relative flatness and the expected ruts on 3 oclock. Roads are currently looking great. Looks a bit like 2013 playa, maybe a little better. However, the b...

Re: Playa Art, Threatened by Ticketing & Vehicle Pass Scarci

One final thought -

If the lack of big art, major camps, or placed/scheduled insanity is grounds for someone to think "Burning Man sucks! I'm not going to go this year!" - maybe, just maybe, the city is a tad better without their presence.

Snark-hat off.

Re: Playa Art, Threatened by Ticketing & Vehicle Pass Scarci

I'm inclined to say - "Yes, it is threatening art and camps" - but to be frank, I think that some things could stand to be juuuuuuuust a bit smaller and more intimate. I mean, sure, massive gigantic holy-shit-scale art/camps make my pants tight, but... I've always kind of dug the random backroad dil...

Re: Bringing an Unregistered (NONOP) RV Motorhome

You are tempting the BLM with this. I would so not do this. Even if you might be in the legal "right," it seems like way more of a grey area, and although it might work out, I see the hammer coming down hard on you if BLM or other law enforcement gets you. Just my two cents. I would always play safe...

Re: How do we get contributing burners tickets who aren’t pl

If anything will actually kill the event, it won't be a horde of EDMers (because they can easily see more than just DJs if given the right chance), it won't be DMZs (because a special place for big cars to play for long periods of time isn't a bad thing), it won't be BLM (because I postulate there a...

Classic ePlaya - someone has a cool idea, first few posts are telling said person how bad said idea is for a variety of somewhat related reasons, followed by a mysterious conclusion with not much information beyond "it worked out!"

Providing an alternate perspective - I have a small/medium-ish sized camp, unplaced on purpose. 15 people this year. I'm always in on Thursday or Friday, via Gate. I've always roped off space for our camp, after speaking with neighbors, on H or I. We have six people that get in early, on a cascading...

Those stories make me sad. It's amazing what a little bit of harm reduction knowledge will do for safety. It's also amazing what kind of things people try to pass off as "good shit" - which means these kids are taking weird doses of weird things. A kid who is used to taking two - three doses in orde...

Gate drinks alcohol. Bring us beer and whiskey and wine and whiskey and beer.

Greeters drink... uh, water, I guess. I don't know any greeters. I'm just one of those gate guys. I think they drink glitter?

It might not matter by the time the event rolls around, but here's what some friends have to say: It's windy. It's wettish, with intermittent raining (and some hail!) since workers have been arriving. The playa itself is disgusting, some claim the worst they've ever seen. Chunky, goopy, dusty, nasty...

Where is the point where BRC volunteers direct cars into the penalty/waiting lot- at turnoff, at the gate, elsewhere? Have the e-mail and everything ready to go at the Gate. When you get there, let them know, and show them the e-mail and any other documentation you have. Be open and up-front, have it all ready, and it will go smoothly AND quickly! :D

I'll believe it when I see it.

There is a ton of under-the-radar commerce and PnP dealings.

I'll be curious to visit some of the common offenders next year. I expect yurts and RVs, per usual.
