Re: Bright-line test: Theme camps paying live-in employees $

I must disagree with this line and lines in general. Specifically, I met a very fine individual we offered a ride to on our bus-size MV in the deep playa a few years ago. This individual was paid in money and with a ticket to cook for the camp which generates power for the area around center camp -...

Man, no wonder they always win.....
Yeah, not sure why we always seem to get bogged down on ice and coffee when there's a much much much bigger issue at hand.

Re: Bright-line test: Theme camps paying live-in employees $

It seems pretty reasonable though. The event space is now open for 10 days in the desert (general public). Getting rid of ice is asking for a lot of spoiled food borne sickness. Thanks for looking. I agree. There have been endless debates (for at least 20 years) about ice and coffee vending. Not ev...

Re: Bright-line test: Theme camps paying live-in employees $

What do you think about somebody being paid a fixed sum, off-playa, to be on-call throughout the event? Not an hourly wage, they still get to run around climbing on silly sculptures, but they have to carry a radio and come home to work whenever they're needed, e.g. if they're a mechanic and somethi...

AND (2) for the most part they're not living at BRC during the event.) Just for information's sake. The guy I picked up in Reno, Tacobob, as a rideshare works early and all week as an ambulance driver. He was going to put in 2 days at the hosp also. He gets paid very well. He gets 2 free tickets an...

Bright-line test: Theme camps paying live-in employees $$$

(Sorry to start YET ANOTHER thread.) Presumably everyone by now has read this, by Beth Lillie: https://www.facebook.com/notes/10205301569801653/ I've seen a lot of discussion about it on different sites, including here on eplaya, the Burning Man FB group, our camp forum, other FB groups, and Burners...

Re: Jagged Texas redneck blown away by SEXY Jewish backpack

More than five years have passed now since M. Joe took his life. I don't know why, but I think about his journey often.

RIP, M. Joe. Your spirit helps us build, and when the temple burns, part of our silence is for you.

Wow. That's my camp! I founded Sextant Camp to get your hearts pounding. In 2013 we were at 7:45 & C with a 36 ft tower. For 2014 we were at 3:15 & Esplanade with a 52 ft tower (and some Tesla Coils). Thanks for sharing! -Sarge Sarge, you rock. I missed you guys this year, but grats on the Esplanad...

The zip line whisperer (2013)

So it was Sunday, noon, somewhere around 6:45 and C maybe, and I had passed by this zip line at a zip line camp every day for the burn. And I had kept telling myself, "Oh, yeah, have to ride that zip line." But I realized on that Sunday that I'd best give it a try now or there wouldn't be another ch...

Yeah, I wasn't sure what to do when he point-blank asked me if I had drugs on me or in the vehicle. I suppose I could have responded with, "Am I being arrested?" but I was a bit flustered at the time.

Re: Exodus 2013 - How was it?

Left camp 9:20am Monday. GAR announced 4-6 hours wait and rains would hit at noon. We were /almost/ at the front (maybe 15 cars back) when the rain hit at 3:30pm. We were stopped for two hours at that point, then finally on pavement a bit after 5:30pm when the line started moving for real again. 447...

Re: Burning Man 2013: Lovelock

I arrived at Gerlach Monday night 10pm. I was pulled over shortly after leaving the pavement. The reason he pulled me over was an expired registration -- which was true. I had paid my registration a couple of weeks before (plus the late fee) but the new tags hadn't arrived in time. (They did arrive ...

Just for data points: Started car on Sunday at 10:30pm, hit pavement 1:05am. Came up the 6:30 spoke, didn't change lanes. Another car that left at the exact same time as me but came up the 7:30 spoke didn't hit pavement until 3am. So, your time may vary no matter when you leave, depending on the mer...

Car Thief Honeypot

So we just got back from the latest Space Cowboy's shindig in SF at 1015 Folsom -- the Lee Coombs Breakfast of Champions release party. Good music, good crowd, fun time. Me, Kitty, & Datura had driven up to join up with Zero and Wonder, two burners we first met at BM04. And we all danced and had a g...

Russell, how tall are you? I'm going to guess that it's over 5'10". Try this: Next time you're at the burn, pretend that you're less than 5'. Like about four or five of my campmates. Kneel down, and see what you see. My bet is that being that height will change your perception of what should be done...
