Re: Fun Fur

What drawingablank said. If you're shopping at a fabric joint in person, use your fingers and give it the gentle pull test. If looking online, see if the store does fabric swatches. It's a tiny patch of the actual fabric that they'll send you, because the best picture they can take just doesn't let...

Fun Fur

I'm planning a crochet project that uses fun fur. Does anyone know if it sheds a lot? Don't want to be moopy.

Re: Burn Preparation Costs

Self imposed budget for my first burn is $3000, and that's a lot of start up costs with some padding built in, and I'm going solo. Shelter: $500 including aluminet shade covering for kodiak canvas tent. I've always been a backpacker; A huge canvas tent will feel like a hotel compared to that. Flight...

Re: The official BMORG statement on 2012 tickets and theme:

Frankly, regarding tickets, I'm glad to hear that they are taking the time to think it through, and would be more concerned had they not. I'm a Burner from across the great pond (Belgium, if anyone can find it on the map) and have always had friends buy the tickets in SF, but this year I'm wonderin...

Re: Possible shade structure???

After second look, I'm not sure you could safely guy that thing down. It looks too light and flimsy for the playa. You'd have to have all of the screens rolled up every time you left camp. Otherwise, they would just act as sails when the wind showed up. Yeah the more I think about it, I think the w...

Good to know. I'm very interested in checking out AEZ. ... I camp solo all the time, but from a social standpoint. I tend to be shy and have a difficult time making the first step. I feel like I would enjoy myself more if there is a group of people who I have to interact with by default. I found AE...

you can build an as good (or better) shelter like that for $70 or less. *edit.. and youll know it can withstand strong stuff cuz youd have built it I am not particularly well skilled at building things, and as I'm flying in, I'm pretty limited in size and weight. Saw this for sale on Cabela's. Too flimsy for the winds? Reviews are meh, but the price is good. If I only get two trips out of it, I'm okay with that. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Trekker8482-Family-Gazebo/732568.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch.cmd%3Fform_state%3DsearchForm%26N...

Re: Give Hushville More Space

Perhaps. But as VultureChow is not yet a veteran, it's not a "do-acracy" suggestion. And for this to work on a big scale, it would entail 1000s of people. And I'm not sure how that would differ from any other veteran/birgin combo in a camp either. I wasn't exactly suggesting that every virgin needs...

I'm actually, in all seriousness, an exotic animal trainer by profession. I'd love to volunteer my time for lion-taming duty, or maybe handle a troupe of attack monkies for Moop-Czar? That second part not in all seriousness.... :D http://gothstore.piratemerch.com/images/flying_monkey.jpg You'd have...

Re: Make Art, seriously, do it

Creativity is one of the human legacies we all are heir to. I abhor the idea of "real art". Just because something's in a museum, doesn't mean it's inherently "better" than other work. (Yes, there is very good stuff in museums, but they keep the embarrassing parts of the collection in some cellar s...

Re: Stop Burning Man's Culture of Bicycle Thievery!!!

You know, I'm all for locking my bike; but it irks the hell out of me that I can't just jump off to take a piss without having to lock it. That's just wrong. If I were planning on leaving it for awhile, I can certainly appreciate it; but to have to watch it like a hawk every second certainly says s...

Re: Black Rock Country Club Project for 2012

I believe the astroturf and the LED golf balls will be sufficient to prevent major divots and MOOP. Astroturf is a known MOOP producer. You could wind up making more MOOP than you ever dreamed when that stuff dries out & starts to shed. How about something like those foam floor tiles you see in war...

Cool idea. I had one thought. I'll be a birgin, so I can't speak for what works or doesn't in the environment, so you can totally dismiss this if it doesn't work. Lockers: You might want to look into using programmable locker locks instead of keys. I imagine a lot of keys might be lost. The spa I go...

I'd totally help out. Not so good with design, but I can wield a nail gun and a paintbrush. And I'm in Jersey.

Also... Has anyone ever done a sarlacc pit?! That would be freakin awesome. Art car as the transport. Foam teeth and a moon bounce as the landing.

So far this has reinforced what I was already planning... Event Ticket, Airline, Car, supplies. If one's intent though is to buy an event ticket the day they become available, is there truly a possibility of not getting one? Does the fact that 2011 sold out mean that there will be a rush on tickets ...

"On the playa" = same as in your kitchen. I have friends that live by those things.. I can still hear the "honk honk" of them ringing in my ears. To me though.. it would be extra bulk, not less. My only concern was whether I was cool/pretty enough to go. It's hard to look at so many pictures and not be overwhelmed by the scores of topless women who are younger, thinner and prettier than me.
