Re: Why can't I bring that food to the playa?

I only drink raw milk, which doesn't last nearly as long as the pasteurized crap before it starts to curdle. And then it gets risky. So far I haven't brought raw milk to the playa, however I fucking love milk and I fucking love cereal on the playa so I always bring unsweetened almond milk. I can't ...

Re: Playa food for the extremely lazy?

couscous is great, just add hot (or even warm) water.

Leave water out in the sun for the day in a steel or aluminum container.

Pout hot water on couscous, 3 minutes later you have warm soft little balls.

Add whatever you like to the mix, jerky, foil packet of tuna\salmon, bacon, nuts.

Re: Why can't I bring that food to the playa?

Interesting tidbit for those of you who want milk. Once frozen the expiration date becomes null and void. IE, you bought some milk on the 10th of the month, the expiration (actually it's a sell by date, unless you're in NYC) is the 30th. You have 20 days to finish it off while it's refrigerated. If ...

Re: BRC on a motorcycle, a how to guide & FAQ

He sure has, but every so oftne someone asks if its possible. and 17 people say it is not, until a few people (like simon) chime in to disagree.

Thought having a step by step guide would be nice.

Re: Camel bak, good or bad?

I personally do not like having anything on my back. I take over driving duty for a few art cars so having to constantly put on and take off a pack and potentially loosing it sucks. It's also annoying and too hot and sweaty to wear all day in the heat. My solution(s). 1. A Camelbak bottle with sippy...

Re: An alternative to bread bread bread?!?!?!

Get the blue or green tortillas. this way you won't know when they go bad. :) There is a tortilla factory near me. I pick up a 50 pack which is like $1 just before a motorcycle trip. Can't beat carrying 50 pieces of tortillas in the same space as a large bialy. Oh, those instant bread and biscuit th...

Re: BRC on a motorcycle, a how to guide & FAQ

Very comprehensive, well done. I have three questions: Is that tent able to withstand the conditions on the playa? How are you staking it down? Which pawn shop in Reno? Yes it can handle the conditions of the playa and has. It's rated to 40 or 60mph winds, mesh panels fully seal, self healing zippe...

BRC on a motorcycle, a how to guide & FAQ

BRC on a motorcycle, a how to guide & FAQ Hey guys, Been doing a ton of research on going to BM while being self contained. Whether it be by motorcycle, bicycle, or on foot. Before you think it’s not possible, I’ve done it, and so have a small number of others. I have plenty of motorcycle travel exp...

Re: Motorcycle

There's a reason you don't see lots of motorcycles at Burning Man, but you see tons and tons of box trucks, RVs, vans... I don't think thats because you NEED that much space, it's more because there are way too many people who just have to have this and that and cannot fathom being without. Really,...

Ironically, the guy that was next to me on his bike at BM was on a BMW... he wasn't prepared for what Black Rock Desert is like nor was his bike. Wonder how that turned out later. My gifting helped him survive the desert, but he still had to ride home - to New York! I think I know the guy you're re...

First-timer here. I'm an experienced motorcycle rider who will be attending this year. Very interested in hearing from other riders who have, or will be attending. Re: Thinking of riding my motorcycle in.

Hey guys, I'll be riding in (from NYC if anyone wants to ride along). My bike has lately been overheating in heavy traffic, if moving I'm fine. How is the traffic on the way in? is it stop and go or does it move in decent increments? Most motorcycles have small radiators and puny fans (that is if th...

Re: Free Foam Mattresses

I've still got some foam hospital grade mattresses in zip up covers. Too thick to roll up usually, but nice enough to sleep on at home. These typically are fire resistant and washable, and not cheap. I can send specs and even brand and model on some. Pick up in memphis or I'll ship at your cost. Mo...

Wouldn't want it stolen though.

I recommend Feathered Friends.
I've had a feathered friends bag, sold it, I'm partial to Big Agnes these days. But FF does make some nice bags if you don't mind the price tag.

Re: Rebar substitutes (light weight)

The rebar thing is a legacy of cheapskates dumpster-diving for camping gear. I kinda figured as much. A set of quality stakes is cheaper than rebar and a helluva lot smaller and lighter. Maybe whoever started the trend bought a cheap tent with those little skewer stakes that are worthless unless yo...

That sounds like a great idea. I'll be heading back on a motorcycle so I might detour off the beaten path (last thing I want to do is drone along on a highway) to see the sights on the way back but can meet at predetermined spots for sleep\eats\debauchery. There will be at least two of us riding bac...

Re: Tent sleeping bag and mat online

gyre seems to be a gear whore, like me. I've got some high end camping gear but I'm kind of hesitant to use any of it at BRC. For one I would hate for my $900 tent to be ruined during one trip that has lasted me hundreds of nights elsewhere. I'd also hate to have my $300 sleeping bag covered in play...
